Up until yesterday, my most visited websites would show as tiles when New Tab was clicked on. Now all the tiles are blank. I have checked all settings. HELP!

I can not get the most visited websites to appear in the tiles when New Tab is clicked. Under New Tab Controls, I have checked to show top sites. I have looked over the help section and can find nothing else to get the web sites to appear.

Hmm, how blank are they? In other words, are they still linked to your sites -- just the thumbnail images missing -- or are they truly empty?

The new tab page draws information from your history, computing the sites you visit most often with heavier weight for recent visits. Has anything happened to your history? You can double-check using the Library dialog, either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+h
  • History menu > Show All History

If your history is also missing, don't panic just yet. Two things to check in that case:

(1) Sometimes after Windows updates, Windows starts up with partial permissions and Firefox cannot access your browser data files normally. Shutting down Windows and starting it up again nearly always resolves that issue.

(2) If you discover an Old Firefox Data folder on your desktop, then the Firefox Refresh feature ran at some point. Check inside on how recently updated the files are, to help determine whether any might be good candidates for restoration.
