So, I'm trying to clean out the inbox of an Outlook imap account. Has, oh, 40K or so of msg. So, I created a few folders, moved masses of emails from inbox to these folders (or try to), yet when I log back on with Tbird, nothing has changed! Whatever I moved out of inbox to other folders, is still in inbox and not in the other folders.

And, I keep getting the "Error 9" msg.

Help, please!!

what error 9 message? Verbatim works well for error messages, as well as a context of exactly what you do to get it to appear. step by step if necessary.

To get it to appear, I just click on the message folder for that account. It has messages going back 10 years. the error msg is from thunderbird:

The current operation on 'Inbox' did not succeed. The mail server for account <email address@hotmail.com> responded: Error 9. Server error. Please try again later.

I've been trying again for about 3 weeks now.

Sometimes I can get new messages, sometimes not. I do see a lot of "downloading header xxx of 42436 (or similar large number).

I found discussion threads from years ago that said it was fixed. Guess not.

thx.

Sounds like an old bug has reared it's ugly head.

Try this as a workaround.

Logon to webmail account. Create a new folder called eg: 'Old Inbox' then move all the older emails (except for the newest 1000) into the 'Old Inbox' folder.

This should leave the newest 1000 emails in Inbox.

In Thunderbird see if Inbox works to get those 1000 emails. subscribe to see 'Old Inbox' and see if you can see all the other emails.

How do I do that? I don't see a way to "move msgs older than <date>", and I can view only a few message (to click on the checkbox by each) at a time. There are 1712 pages of messages. :-) thx.

I do not know anything about how outlook.com arrange their website nor what options they offer and it's not really a Thunderbird issue either :) However, a quick search on google gave me this link which may help:

Suggest as you want to move more than you need to keep. Use the 'Move all' option to move all in the Inbox to 'Old Inbox' folder. Then simply select a few/ a page worth and move them back to Inbox.

In Thunderbird see if Inbox works to get those moved back emails. subscribe to see 'Old Inbox' and see if you can see all the other emails.
