thunderbird version 2024 - toolbar customization: missing: "delete" and "junk"


Dear ,

we send a note as i handle average day, some 1000 emails in thunderbird.

for handling this , we use thunderbird last 10 years, where as the mail toolbar is:

previous - next - (delete ) - (junk )

In all versions up to 2023 , we would install above 4 (four ) settings on one line after each other.

In the new version from 2024 , the settings between: ( ) , are no longer in the main possibilies, but

we must use these settings on the line under; which takes far more time than all on one line.

Is it possible to have the ( ) settings, in the next new version , back again , like before ??

Suddenly, possibly due to an update but unsure (started on 6th November), my emails no longer sent in Thunderbird due to the above message. I am still receiving emails in Thunderbird. I have checked all of this with plusnet and as I can send and receive without problems in webmail, this is being seen as not a plusnet issue. In terms of trying to resolve, I have tried adding my password in to the box, have tried checking all of my smtp settings against those advised to no avail. Has something changed... There seems to be many similar threads but not sure if mine is the same so creating a new thread.

I've been having this problem for probably about a year now. I have 9 accounts (5 Pop3 and 4 IMAP), and the passwords are stored by Thunderbird. I click the send/recieve button and everything downloads...until it doesn't. I go the settings/ saved passwords and what was a long list is very short...it has the MS oauth stuff for outlook.com emails and nothing else.

Over time I've found a relatively easy workaround. if I click the offline button in the lower corner, eventually it will prompt me for all the missing passwords and I'll be ok. But I have to exit and re-enter Thunderbird for that to work. If I do it in the instance after a download failure...it just hangs.

I use Firefox, and I noticed it happened one time after a Firefox update and I thought that might be an issue, but that didn't happen on the next update. There is nothing overt or obvious with my computer that would explain it...no dropped connections or errors...

I will note that I generally keep the computer and Thunderbird updated...but not necessarily immediately after the latest update is released. Thunderbird is at 128.4.2esr now. Windows 11, 1 yr old computer.

I do he the Thunderbird data on a NAS accessed over a LAN. I've been doing that for a long time with no issues.

No other changes on my end see to be the issue. Any ideas?

For the last three days I've been unable to receive or send emails from Thunderbird. The following messages are being generated:

1.Sending of the message failed. The message could not be sent because the connection to Outgoing server (SMTP) timed out. Try again.

2. Sending of the message failed. The message could not be sent because connecting to Outgoing server (SMTP) smtp.telstra.com failed. The server may be unavailable or is refusing SMTP connections. Please verify that your Outgoing server (SMTP) settings are correct and try again.

I've confirmed the settings with the ISP (Telstra) and the Telstra webmail works so they say everything is OK at their end.

I've turned off Malwarebytes, AVG, and PrivateVPN and closed and restarted Thunderbird and still no success. I've read multitudes of info on the internet and tried all sorts of different things to no avail. The only success I've had is to connect the laptop to my phone and use the phones data through the wifi phone network. Thunderbird then receives and sends emails. However this is not a sustainable solution.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Thunderbird duplicates folders

I am using Thunderbird 128.4.2esr (64-bit) with IMAP where all mails are moved to a folder structure in the local folder.

Since the latest updates of TB, I see that some of my folders under "local folder" suddenly become doubled like

Inbox/FolderA Inbox/FolderA-1

The original FolderA contains sub-folders and even sub-sub-folders. The newly generated FolderA-1 seems to contain all messages from the original folder, but just plain without the sub-folder structure.

It seems that the new FolderA-1 was generated as a kind of backup. It is hard to decide if this new folder can be deleted. The AddOn "Remove Duplicate Messages" does not work here, since it only works on a single folder. Moving all messages from the new folder into the original one does not help either, since the AddOn does not compare messages between folders and their sub-folders.

How can these problems be handled?

Seeking knowledge if possible, on how to import email sub-folder contents from another email provider (in this case, 'The Messaging Company') into Thunderbird. The "Import Tool" in Thunderbird appears limited to only a few sources that it can import from, however I'm unsure if there is another way. Any help would be greatly appreciated. When I move an E-Mail from the in folder to a storage folder it is lost. Undo will not bring it back. It is just gone. This has been happening since the new release. I had no problem with moving item to folders with the prior release.

I followed Mozilla's official instructions for transferring and Thunderbird profile to a new device (running Fedora 40 and Thunderbird version 115). Thunderbird seemed to read my profiles folder correctly, as all my accounts and RSS feeds were present after I copied the old profile to folder to my new .thunderbird directory. However, after downloading the header files for the emails I have received since switching computers, it then tries to download all 60,000 emails or so on my gmail account even though most of these emails should be included in the profile folder already - it looks like have 6 GB INBOX file within this profile.

Is there a way to get thunderbird to read the profile without redownloading all the messages from my accounts? I unfortunately no longer have access to my old windows machine that this profile is from, just the profile folder itself. Let me know if there is anything I can do!

I am unable to send emails from my Optusnet email account through Thunderbird. This also happened a couple of weeks ago, and was resolved with Optus Tech support by updating the SMTP settings, but they don't seem to be able to help this time. What settings do you recommend? Or other solution?

In late September, IONOS canceled me--they blamed their new algorithm. They also deleted or uninstalled my Thunderbird at the same time--they deny doing it. I reinstalled T-bird and downloaded my current inbox from webmail, but 25+ years of work and personal email files saved in Local Folders were missing, along with my address book. Carbonite recovered >130GB of T-bird files that I think and hope are my saved files and put them in one big folder on my desk top--hours later, Hurricane Helene hit. I have my replacement computer now and a recovery drive from Carbonite with>450G of my data on it, including my earlier recovered Thunderbird files.

Question: how do I get those files and address book back into my Thunderbird? This is critical for me. I'm a writer, and all my professional communications are in them, along with all my volunteer work and personal messages--more than 25 years' worth! Between the hurricane and this, I've lost more than a month of work already as well as contacts, medical records, etc..

I just set up Thunderbird to use with my Roadrunner email. I can send messages but when I try to send I get message "connection to Outgoing server (SMTP) mail.twc.com timed out". .

Jeg har problemer med at sende mails til min penneveninde i Sydtyskland. Det viser sig desværre, at hun ikke har haft et virusprogram. Når hun sender fotos, lægger disse fotos sig ind i stedet for de fotos, som kommer fra både private og offentlige mails. Det er sket et par gange. Nu er der også sket det, at et opslag fra en afsender – bliver vist som et kommenteret opslag på Facebook.

Jeg har kontaktet mit virusprogram som siger jeg ikke har virus og at jeg skal kontakte jer for at finde en løsning.

Når jeg vil sende noget til min penneven bliver mailen stoppet af Thunderbird med to advarsler, som jeg vedhæfter. Desværre ved jeg ikke hvad advarslerne betyder og ved ikke hvad jeg skal gøre. When the Inbox is displayed and I delete one message, suddenly all the messages disappear. In their place is "No message found" even though the upper left of the screen shows that there are messages in the Inbox. All other folders also appear to have no messages.

The fix is to close and restart Thunderbird, and all messages re-appear. This happens at least once a day.

The program is running on Xubuntu 24.04.1. There are many message filters and the profile is around 7 GB.

Thanks in advance for any suggestion on how to fix. A screenshot is attached.
