I used to use Internet explorer as my browser to access my account. last year, the credit union updated their computers and this browser would no longer work. I am still using windows xp on my dinosaur computer. The credit union recommended another browser such as mozilla firefox or chrome. Mozilla has been working okay to access my account until recently. Now, it will bring up the home page. I enter all the security stuff and then get another screen that is blank-no error messages, nothing! MY wife has a newer laptop which will access my account with no problems. Help??

When you get to the blank page, could you try this:

When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.

(1) Bypass Firefox's Cache

Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.

Alternately, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:

"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced

On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"

If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.

(2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the (problem) site, try either:

  • right-click the page and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
  • (menu bar) Tools > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
  • click the padlock or globe icon in the address bar > More Information > "View Cookies"

In the dialog that opens, you can remove the site's cookies individually.

Then try reloading the page. Depending on how the site is designed, that may kick you back to login again. Any improvement on the second try?

I noticed your "More System Details" does not list the Flash player plugin. Perhaps you disabled that because it was causing problems, or perhaps Firefox disabled it because it was extremely out of date. I don't know whether your bank's site requires Flash, but it might be worth looking into.

You can check the status of your Flash plugin on the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Plugins. On the right side, look for "Shockwave Flash" and if you find it, try changing the general permission to "Ask to Activate".

With that setting, when you visit a site that wants to use the Flash, you should see a notification icon in the address bar (like a small Lego block) and one of the following: a link in a black rectangle in the page or an infobar sliding down between the toolbar area and the page.

If you don't see any media you want to play, you can ignore the notification.

If Shockwave Flash is not listed, either it might not be installed or Firefox might not be detecting it. If you haven't updated it lately, you might just try to reinstall it. On the following page, Adobe has installers you can download for both the current 18.0.x series and the "extended support" version 13.0.x: https://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/distribution3.html

The installer will let you know whether you need to exit out of Firefox to complete the process.

I can't believe how simple this fix was when you know what you are doing! The very first thing you mentioned worked to restore the blank page (ctrl+shift+r) . I can"t thank you enough for this help. I have been fighting this for two weeks, to the point of ready to purchase new computer. Thanks again for the help!
