account has been hacked

I received an email from Microsoft to inform me that there had been suspicious activity on my account for email address admin@permsolutions.co.uk and my account was been used in Taiwan. I independently changed my password not clicking on the link of the email as I was unsure of the authenticity of the email. Since this email I have received over 1000 emails to inform me that there is a message sending failure and return to sender. I have not tried to send an email from this account and suspect someone has the hacked the account. I would like to know how to block and indeed stop these emails coming through.

Email client software has no means to block anything. It downloads what is in your Inbox on your providers server. Thunderbird has Junk Controls to filter out junk mail but your still downloaded it. You can talk to your provider for what options they offer.

Just curious, what would make you think Microsoft would contact you about your email address. Your address does not seem to be one provided by them.
