How do I get rid of the Google blog which opens when I open Firefox? I do have a Google email address, but that is all I have signed up for.

If it requires getting rid of the email address, I will. Very annoying.

Does the same page appear any time you load your home page? You can test using either or both of these:

  • Ctrl+n to launch a new window
  • click the Home icon on the toolbar to go home in the same tab

If it load then, you may need to update your home page setting, or you might have an add-on that is supplanting your home page.

To check your setting, see these help articles:

To review your extensions, and either configure, disable or remove unwanted ones, open the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • (Fx28) orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
  • (Fx29) "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable.

Usually a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.

Can you get the home page you want?

more options

If you get a certain page ONLY when you use your Firefox program shortcut (e.g., desktop icon), the shortcut might be hijacked.

right-click the icon > Properties > Shortcut tab

For 64-bit Windows 7, the Target should be the following, no more, no less:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe"
