Hi randeleigh, Firefox backs up your Bookmarks each day, automatically. There are 15 Bookmark Backups stored.

Open the Bookmarks Library (I use Ctrl+Shift+B) Select Import & Backup Hover your cursor over Restore A menu will appear showing all of the backups Select a day from before this incident

If you are synced with your office computer, you might want to look at changing what is synced so that this doesn't recur.

Hi randeleigh, first, do you want any data from your Firefox Account shared between your installations?

Assuming you want logins shared but not bookmarks or Add-ons, use the Preferences page to manage what is shared. Either:

  • Mac: "3-bar" menu button (or Firefox menu) > Preferences
  • Windows: "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options
  • Linux: "3-bar" menu button (or Edit menu) > Preferences
  • Any system: type or paste about:preferences into the address bar and press Enter/Return to load it

In the left column, click Firefox Account or Sync, and uncheck the categories of data you do not want Sync to share across your installations.

Next, you could try restoring a recent bookmark backup. This article has more information on that feature: Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer. Again, it's crucial to stop sync'ing bookmarks before this step or you'll have a new problem on the other end.

Note: IF you disconnect your home Firefox completely from your Firefox Account, Firefox will ask whether you want to delete all your data. Do NOT delete all your data.

The name of an automatically created JSON bookmarks backup in the bookmarkbackups folder includes a total item count (folders and separators included) and an hash value to prevent saving the same backup more than once. You also see this count in the Restore menu drop-down list.

  • bookmarks-YYYY-MM-DD_<item count>_<hash>.jsonlz4.

Is it safe to assume that you logged into your Firefox Account with your personal computer?

The Sync service purposely shares all your Firefox data with all devices that you connect to that Sync account; and all the data categories that are selected on the about:preferences#sync page inside Firefox will get synchronized.

Make sure that you deselect Bookmarks at the top of the categories on your personal computer (and maybe your work computer, too) so that this doesn't happen again. Or just "disconnect" one or both devices from Sync, assuming that there is no need to synchronize ant Firefox data between the two devices. There is no way to have 2 separate sets of bookmarks in Firefox and Sync co-mingles / intermixes that type of data into one large collection.
