Thunderbird and Windows 11 both updated yesterday or today. In several archive folders, messages since about a year ago are now missing. Is there a way to restore to the folder contents as of about 24-48 hours ago? Inbox, Deleted, etc do not seem to be affected.

On Friday 24/09/06, I deleted my thunderbird-profile-file without immediately realizing it. I realized it on Monday 24/09/07, by opening the program and getting an error message. A new profile-file was immediately initialized by the program and also a program-update was made to version 128.2.0esr (32-Bit)). Unfortunately, I do not know the version, I used before the update Using your instructions from the Mozilla knowledge-base, I was able to restore the file-situation, as it was before my mistake killing my profile. Although trying now for three days getting the old data (inbox, sent mails, address book) in the new profile by importing or over writing I didn't have any success. Trying to import old profile-data by the program-tool results in an error message. When overwriting the existing files with the old ones, I get new folders, but they were all empty. After long time of research in your knowledge-base, trying mentioned solutions without success, I suppose that it is no more a question of recreating a knew profile but a question of the program-update made on Monday and a data conflict between the two program versions. I Think the new version cannot handle with the old data. I would like to install the version I used before the update, but do not know whether which version it was nor where I could find an old program-version? Or is there a possibility to manage old data with the new version, and I do not know it? Perhaps you can reconstruct the old program-version by seeing the content in the folders of my old profile-file appended below (explorer screen shot) I would be grateful if You could help me retrieving my old data (Inbox, sent etc.).

Your instructions for changing outgoing server settings for Microsoft SMTP server require changing authentication method to OAuth2. Unfortunately this doesn't appear in the drop down menu. I only have No authentication, Norman password, encrypted password, Kerberos/GSSAPI, NTLM. Which of these should I chose instead or how can I get the correct setting to show? Security settings for incoming server settings are fine (ie. OAuth2 can be selected).

Thunderbird automatically updated to v128 earlier this week after I went to Help - About Thunderbird to check that it had updated to v115.14.

Everything seemed okay immediately after the update, but when I started Thunderbird the next day it was very unresponsive. Checking the Activity Manager showed that Thunderbird was indexing messages, but that this was happening very slowly. I let Thunderbird do its thing that day in the hope that things would settle down.

The next day when I started Thunderbird things were still bad. I tried Rebuilding the Global Database but when I restarted Thunderbird it was just as bad, if not worse.

I then turned off indexing in the Thunderbird settings and Thunderbird is now responsive and back to normal.

Is anyone else seeing anything like this? Any suggestions to fix the problem?

I am a long time Thunderbird user so my profile is very large with a lot of accounts, and has been through a lot of Thunderbird versions, so it is potentially more complicated than normal.

Thunderbird version is currently 128.1.0esr (32-bit).

Thanks

I tried changing the authentication method to OAUTH2 for my Outlook live mail account (POP). For that, I had to change the server name to office365.com. After restarting Thunderbird, I was able to download new messages but all the old messages already stored in Thunderbird disappeared, even though Thunderbird still shows the same old Local Directory as being used.

How do I change the authentication to OAUTH2 & get my old messages back?

If I delete & again create the Outlook live account, would it effect my old mails/filters ?

Hi,

since I installed Ubuntu 24.04 Thunderbird (V. 128.1.0 as snap app) changes the path of the local directory each time I restart Thunderbird. My original path to the local directory points to a mounted drive e.g. /media/username/disk... Thunderbird changes it to /run/usr/1000/doc/.... How can I avoid this? The same thing happens also to the path of the signature file.

Thank you for your help! Ubuntu

Hi there,

So, I have a professional account with outlook.office365.com for my professional email (which is aleclercq@sobemab.fr). But I use my personal email to contact you right now. We have Black in Mail operating for all new email and then I can't get email from you unless you authenticate yourself.

Anyway, my configuration is : HP computer, windows 11 Professional (build 22631.4112) Thunderbird version 128.2.0esr (64-bit). Add-on Owl for exchange.

Now, when I launch Thunderbird, it connect properly and I do receive emails. All good.

But the problem comes when I want to SEND an email. It doesn' t work. I have attached some screenshots for you to see. It will be easier that way, I guess. I'll appreciate your help on that matter ASAP. Outlook is ok, but I can't stand it and I really want to use Thunderbird. :)

Thank you Best Regards Alexandre

Received message from Microsoft they are changing over to the New Modern Authentication as of Sept. 16th. Thunderbird does support Modern Authentication for using a third party But do I need to do anything?

I can't change my server settings with SMPT from changing the "normal password"to" OAuth2" though I can change the IMAP server from "normal password" to "OAuth2". Is this neccesary>
Please help, I've been a user of TBird for over 25 years! I don't care for the "bells and whistles " that other sites offer. I love the simplicity of TBird. mj

I have used MailStore Home to archive then export an Outlook PST file into Thunderbird. The Export appears to have worked, but I notice that the resulting file structure in Thunderbird Local Folders has "MailStore Export / Outlook Outlook Data File / Inbox", with all my folders residing under the inbox folder (which they should). Is there a way I can change the Local Folder structure to remove the top level "MailStore Export / Outlook Outlook Data File" and leave the top level as "Inbox"? See image.

How can I restore Thunderbird settings and/or emails that were lost in the upgrade to version 128.2 (for Ubuntu)? Files for the previous version are still in the hidden .thunderbird folder on my hard disc, but the new version won't recognise them (even if I move them into the snap/thunderbird folder. I use Thunderbird on Windows 10; I have a verizon.net email account which I access through Thunderbird. Verizon.net email is transferred to the server from AOL Mail, and I have been able to get and send my emails on Thunderbird at verizon.net for years. This week, after Thunderbird's latest update, I have not received any incoming mail on Thunderbird, but I can see my emails on AOL Mail. The technical expert I consulted deduced that the problem is with Thunderbird such that AOL is not connecting to the incoming mail server, even after the password was changed. I can send messages successfully from Thunderbird; the outgoing mail works.

Hello Thunderbird, Lovin' your Work, but!... The Thunderbird Calendar 'search' timeline has become very limited. I used to be able to search all past present and future entries, but now all I get is 'Today' onward up to 'next 12 months'... that's it! I really need to be able to find more than that, particularly 'past' events. I'm sure I'm not alone in asking if the ability to search 'All Entries' can be re-introduced with future updates of the Thunderbird Calendar.

FYI, I am using Thunderbird Version 128.2.0esr on a 2015 iMac with macOs Big Sur version 11.4.

Cheers and thanks in antici...pation!

I've been a Thunderbird user for years. I have no idea what they changed recently, but it's incredibly, incredibly SLOW, almost to the point of unusability. Even something as simple as deleting emails.

I usually do these in chunks -- select multiples and delete. We're not talking about hundreds of emails at at time here, just maybe 5-15. Select them all, hit delete, and it should take just a couple of seconds to delete the messages. It did, in the past. But lately, it's taking so long that I could leave and make a sandwich, and when I come back, maybe it will be done. Maybe it will still be working, though, or maybe it will have locked up because it was taking so long.

It's pretty difficult to get work done at this rate.

In the Thunderbird calendar, I'm trying to create a repeating event that occurs on the fourth Wednesday from Sep 25, 2024 through Jan 22, 2025.

But each time I try to set it up, using Jan 22 as the end date, Thunderbird changes the end date to Jan 21 and so the last event does not get created. I've tried several times and this keeps happening.

What's going on?
