Often with linux when firefox upgrades a lot apps mess up. I'm afraid to upgrade to the new firefox, how can install quantum to try it out and still be able to use my present version?

Download the version from Mozilla directly, and unpack the tar in your home folder -- you will then have both versions to play with! https://archive.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/57.0/linux-x86_64/en-US/
