I have no control using Firefox: links do not work and even the menu bar at the top stops responding. But when I type Ctrl,Alt Del then everything works normally until I link to another page.

This happens everytime Firefox opens. As soon as I click on a link I lose control of the browser until I open task manager. Once task manager is open I just have to click on it to regain control of Firefox. Using Firefox 3.6.11 in Win XP SP3

Do you have that problem when running in the Firefox SafeMode?

Don't select anything right now, just use "Continue in SafeMode."
