Why does Thunderbird keep asking for my password everytime i open it..... then not work as re ask again and again

Everytime I try to open thunderbird to view my emails, it requests my password.... then asks again and again reoccuring and still does not work I have uninstalled the program and reinstalled it yet it has just done the very same thing
