Can't update to 3.6.15 because "The operation can’t be completed because you don’t have permission to access some of the items." What items do I NOT have permission to access?

I keep getting the update window (a minute or two after opening Firefox) telling me I should immediately download and install the update (3.6.15) for urgent security reasons or whatever. However, Firefox or my Mac won't let me install it, telling me I don't have permission to access "some of the items". That is useless information. Is there a list of exactly what items for which I must have correct permissions set in order to complete the update? Otherwise, it could take me several hours to go through hundreds of files/folders/etc to check and correct permissions. This update better be REALLY frickin' important if I have to go to that much trouble. Any help????

  • Download a new copy of the Firefox program: http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html
  • Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install.
  • Install the new version that you have downloaded.

Your profile data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks and other personal data.

Thanks, cor-el. That worked. Hopefully this 'clean' install will prevent similar errors the next time auto update tells me I need a 'new' security update.
