My Firefox won't make bookmarks for Wikipedia articles, even when use the bookmark menu and the right-click window. The bookmark creation box won't show up when I do either, but works fine for pretty much every other site. How can I fix this?

Please ensure that you are adding your bookmarks to either the Bookmarks Toolbar or Bookmarks Menu.

Is the star in the address bar yellow when you are on a page that you want to bookmark?

more options

No, the star isn't yellow. It's empty, just like a normal webpage and it doesn't change after I've tried to bookmark the page.

What operating system are you using? Are you able to create bookmarks on other sites?

I'm using Windows XP and I can create bookmarks on other sites.

Please verify that none of these methods will work to save a new bookmark. Hopefully the 5th method will work for you.

There 5 ways to save a new Bookmark in Firefox:
1. {Ctrl + D}
2. Right-click and select Bookmark this Page.
3. Bookmarks > Bookmark this Page
4. Double-click the Star that is on the right side of the Location bar.
4a. (A single-click on the Star will save the new Bookmark to the Unsorted Bookmarks folder.)
5. Left-click and drag the website image (Favicon) in the URL bar (or on the active tab) into the Sidebar view of Bookmarks {Ctrl + B}
or to the Bookmarks menu bar item (the drop-down will open) and then onto the drop-down listing of your bookmarks and folder of bookmarks (folders will open)
or onto the Bookmarks Toolbar - the new bookmark will be saved when you release the left mouse button

Nope, none of these work. Even when I drag the website onto the bookmarks drop-down menu, my cursor becomes a "Ø", telling me I can't put it there.

Please try updating Firefox to the most recent version.

Have you tried running Firefox in Safe Mode ? If this solves your problem, an addon might be the cause.

I am using the most up-to-date Firefox and it doesn't seem to be an add-on problem.

Is anyone else having the same problem?

Is there anything unusual about the URLs? For example, does the site redirect if you load this page:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mozilla

more options

No, I don't believe so. I certainly don't see any redirecting.

What happens if you manually create a new bookmark in the Library (Show All Bookmarks) and paste the URL in the location field?

more options

Nothing. It doesn't create the bookmark.
