Google Hangout video doesn't work on OS X 10.9 ("Mavericks")
Since upgrading to OS X 10.9 ("Mavericks"), the video part of Google Hangout no longer works -- the video settings pane in Hangouts tells me that I have no camera. This isn't true; I'm on a laptop with a built-in camera, and the video shows up fine in other apps.
I've tried restarting Firefox, as well as uninstalling and re-installing the Google talk/video plugin. No dice.
This may be a red herring, but an informal poll of my co-workers seems to show that it's only people with 11" MacBook Airs that are affected. I find this rather suspicious, and I'm not sure it's actually a thing, but I suppose it's possible.

So it appears that video also doesn't work in Safari, which makes me think it may be a problem with the OS or the plugin, not with Firefox.
Hi, You need to install "GoogleVoiceandVideoSetup.dmg" app
Check whether its installed or not
It is, thank you. I've also tried uninstalling and reinstalling it.
I'm seeing this problem as well, but only when I log in with Firefox. There's just a message on the right indicating that it's trying to logon but taking a long time.
If I use Chrome or Safari, hangouts works just fine.
I'm on Mavericks as well and I have the GoogleVoiceAndVideo stuff installed.
Check your plugins are updated!
That was the first thing I checked.
Do you know specifically what plugin is handling the attempt to sign in to hangouts?
Check "Google Hangouts system requirements"
Works with Safari and Chrome --- I have the latest Firefox --- I think I meet the requirements!
Something has to be blocking the login attempts but I have turned off (as far as I know) all my extensions related to blocking stuff (e.g, adblock, noscript)
So, did you tried in safemode?
Yes, I did ---- exactly the same symptom ---- I just see an indication that it's trying to sign on and it never actually does.
Hello,
The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information.
Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions and some Preferences.
- Open websites will not be saved in Firefox versions lower than 25.
To Reset Firefox do the following:
- Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
- Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
- Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
- Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.
Further information can be found in the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article.
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!
Thank you.
Yeah, that's a last resort ---- I'd much prefer to understand what's wrong rather than just blast it with an atom bomb.
I have a lot of user preferences configured (from many years of use) and I really don't want to lose anything.
So I'd rather get some insight into what kinds of things would prevent Firefox from being able to sign into hangouts.
