Used to work but no longer does. Amazon video works fine in IE, worked fine in FF yesterday now fails with Amazon 7235 error and saying update widevine. Widevine says no new updates when update check is intialized.

I just tested this method in my version of Firefox 68.0.2 and it worked flawlessly. I would recommend creating a new Test Profile to try it in your version.

Start Firefox Type or paste about:profiles in the address bar Press Enter Look for your Default Profile Next to Root Directory click the Open Folder button Close Firefox

In your Profile Folder find the folder gmp-widevinecdm Move it to your desktop

Start Firefox A new WidevineDRM module will install Go to Add-ons/Plugins and Check For Updates

You can delete the gmp-widevinecdm folder on your desktop.

Hi don5441, I searched around and found this tip:

Temporarily removing my HOSTS file from C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc and restarting Firefox allowed the module to update.

My module is up to date so, I didn't see any change. It didn't cause any problems, either.

more options

Don't delete it. Just move it to your desktop.

Note that you use an older Firefox 65.0 version that may come with an older Widevine version.

I see Widevine 4.10.1440.18 in the current Firefox release.

Try to toggle DRM off/on to see if that makes Firefox (re)load DRM components.

I have tried all of the work arounds that used to correct the problem and none of them seem to work any longer. As it seems that FF no longer works for this I will simply use IE. Drm change does not work, widvine update does not .

The remove and reinstall widevine did work and a thank you for that. This however does not explain why the module is a continual problem on all three machines and all the versions of FireFox we use. Have yet to resolve the problem and it did not start until somewhere in the 60 versions of the browser. Seems almost everytime ff is updated it gets broken.

The previous tip that I referred to, about the HOSTS file, might be a relevant factor. I've seen similar questions from MAC users and there is a similar solution for them which requires a re-write of the file. I don't review every question on the forum but, I don't recall seeing any questions about updating Widevine from Windows 10 users.

In short, there seems to be a lot more to it than meets the eye.

Anyway, enjoy your movies!

Hosts trial did not fix it and yes there is more than meets the eye. LOL I don't watch any way but I do get all the grief when others in the household are unable to so thanks again. This has occurred on three machines and three different versions of FF including a just launched brand spankin new win10 machine with ff 68 so i am still looking for a root cause that explains that.

more options

Well, I'm keeping an eye out. As a matter of fact, just to mess with me, I'm looking at a new post from a Win 10 user. Go figure, right?

And once again widevine is kaput so what is it about widevine and firfox that requires the jumping through hoops to maintain it working more than a day?

So now it works for about 2 seconds after the remove and restart with new widevine then pops the seek help message from amazon. And of course amazon help does not help.

I really do wish that I could offer a fix-it-all forever solution but... I spent quite a few hours researching into this problem over the weekend and learned that there has been an issue with Amazon/Netflix/Google Widevine for more than three years. It's all documented and if I were paying for Prime Video or Netflix I'd be all over those people about fixing it or refunding my money!

Also, a suspicion of mine, is that sites like Amazon, Netflix, MSN, etc. are now fighting back against tracking protection and ad blocking by injecting trackers and ads into the headers of videos and images. The easiest way to defeat tracking protection and ad blocking is to get the user to turn it off by denying them what they want to see. I'm not a video expert but, it would be easy enough to prove me wrong by one who is.

Oh I know of the problem however it so far only affects mozilla. I just switched one of the affected machines to Opera and it works fine there although ff still does not after doing the delete and reinstall of widevine that worked for a couple of days. IE and Opera have never had a problem but they were not our preferred browsers and I will never willingly allow a google product in the household if possible so there is no chrome. This problem is only recent to our machines and the first thing we did was disable ad and popup blockers and that had zero effect. And of course we are only small potatoes to amazon so their help is marginal at best. Thanks to all for your responses so far.

I have the same problem. I downloaded Latest Firefox 69.0 with Widevine 4.10.1440.19 yesterday, and still failed to load Amazon Prime Video with a message "Widevine plugin has crashed". I forwarded the crash reports to Mozilla, not sure what to do next

Hi Vulcan540, As you can see here in this thread, I've been working to resolve Widevine issues for about a week, now. The suggestions noted here seem to only be temporary. There are other users who I am waiting for replies and, of course, your crash reports might help achieve a breakthrough. Until then, I suggest getting your money's worth by viewing with another browser or app.

Thank you My_Cheese_Is_Slippin' for your suggestions and contribution to this forum. I will do as suggested. Good that Netflix is not affected (so far).

more options

Actually, users are reporting issues with Netflix as well.

more options

Could it be because I removed the old ff and downloaded the latest ff 69.0? Netflix is still working fine.
