A few days ago one of my email accounts lost the ability to send in Thunderbird. It can receive email to this address and my other accounts (including another from the same ISP) work just fine. Also if I go to my ISPs web site and log in to the email account there I can send email. It is only when using Thunderbird that it has a problem. My ISPs support desk helped me go through my settings for the account and I even deleted it and re-entered it from scratch inside Thunderbird but it still can not send. It just keeps timing out when it tries connecting to the SMTP server.

I am using Thunderbirs 31.6.0 running under Windows 7.

tried it without anti virus email scanning yet? Turn it off reboot and see if that helps.

Yup, tried that. Turning off both virus protection and firewall didn't seem to help.
