I’ve recently bought an iPad Pro and it’s fantastic apart from when I try to install thunderbird I am told the system doesn’t meet the requirements. I wondered if it is possible to somehow get around this as I use emails a great deal for my work and thunderbird will significantly improve my efficiency.

The Thunderbird email client is only for Windows, Linux and Mac OSX.

There has been no development of a mobile version of Thunderbird for any mobile OS including Android and iOS. The Thunderbird community does not have the resources to do so Like Mozilla has for their Firefox versions for desktop, Android and iOS.

Even the Firefox for iOS is not really Firefox but more of a shell as it does not have the Gecko and JavaScript engines that the desktop and Android versions has thanks to Apple's restrictions.

Thunderbird has not been a Mozilla product for a couple years now as there are different things to show this like https://blog.mozilla.org/thunderbird/2017/05/thunderbirds-future-home/
