I have bookmarked a lot of sites recently and its time to organize my bookmarks. I used to be able to click the bookmarks tab at the top of the Firefox window and select "organize bookmarks" - that gave me a list of all the bookmarks and bookmark folders and I could move the new bookmarks into existing folders, create new folders, and leave some one-of-a-kind bookmarks not in folders. Now it only shows a list of folders, plus an icon called "Unsorted Bookmarks" which I can't figure out how to open. How do I open it?

Click on the "+" next to Unsorted Bookmarks to expand/open it.

There is no + sign next to this entry

The unsorted Bookmarks folder should appear at the root level below the Bookmarks Toolbar folder and the Bookmarks Menu folder.

Can you see bookmarks in that folder if you open the bookmarks in the sidebar?

I have this problem as well... I see NO "+" sign at all next to Unsorted Bookmarks. I am used to using the "Bookmarks" -> "Organize Bookmarks" through the main Firefox menu and this should work, but it doesn't.

Doing the above opens a new window called "Library" in which you can see the Unsorted Bookmarks but you can't open it at all...

I have spent hours trying to figure out this same, most frustrating, problem. Does anyone know how to move the unsorted bookmarks and files from the Library to the bookmark list? Can anyone figure what the point of the Library is? I may be obtuse on this point, but it seems to me that if we bookmark something, it stands to reason that we want to save the site. I would much rather go back and delete bookmarks I don't want than to have to figure out how in the world to capture the ones I do.

I echo everything others have said - there is no + sign.

Same problem here. If you search for a single space you can see all your bookmarks that have a space in the name though, which might help until this bug is fixed.

Firefox needs to find a simple fix to this ongoing problem.

How come I can't just import the data from my previous Firefox file versions? They let you do it with the current version of IE.

I actually have a + sign next to the Unsorted Bookmarks file however there is only 1 site in the folder while I have close to 50 bookmarks that are in the bookmark dropdown but aren't showing up in the organize menu. Extremely frustrating to have to manually organize all my bookmarks from the dropdown menu.

I can't list the unsorted bookmarks either - very frustrating.

This is what I have figured out: Click the bookmarking star TWICE On the drop down menu click "Choose" You will be able to appropriately designate your bookmark.

This does not work on my system. Some items on my bookmarks list come up with the outline star only and clicking on that simply re-bookmarks them. Double clicking does not give me a 'choose' option. Any other ideas? Sallie S

I had the same problem. The answer was not intuitive but it was logical once I figured it out. When you make a bookmark, the dialogue box asks you for name, folder, and tags. The drop down menu for the folder entry give you a number of folder locations, of which "Unsorted Bookmarks" is one. I would just click "ok" without paying attention to the entry ( in my case, "Bookmarks Menu" ) that was in the "folder" portion of the dialogue box. Note: the drop down gives four options: "Bookmarks Menu"; "Bookmarks Toolbar"; "Unsorted Bookmarks"; and "Your Choice". What I suggest is that you start to bookmark a site. When the dialogue box opens to make the bookmark, note what the "folder" line says. Assuming that you have not changed the folder, your bookmarks probably in that folder. Click on "organize bookmarks" and then, in the center screen click on the folder named in the dialogue box. That's how I found mine.

Thanks - I will be more careful in future about where I locate my bookmarks. In the meantime I still have my problem of of being able to access my unsorted bookmarks to sort them. When I click on unsorted bookmarks in the Organize bookmarks screen it does not open. Any ideas? thanks

DOUBLE clicking on Unorganized bookmarks works for me.

textI'm just going to return to using Internet Explorer. I've spent hours reading "help"....(by the way, "thanks" to all those who have made suggestions). Still, I have no way of creating files under which I can organize bookmarks so I am not developing this massive list of ALL bookmarks I save.

As someone stated, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"

This worked for me: firefox 4.0.1 on mine, there's an orange tab at the top left of the browser that says "firefox". click on it, then CLICK on "bookmarks" instead of hovering to get the sub-menu. it should open up "organize bookmarks".

it happened by accident for me, then took me half an hour to figure out what i had accidentally done that solved the problem :)

You can either click on Bookmarks or use Show All Bookmarks from the Bookmarks sub-menu. Both will open the Bookmarks Manager (Library).
