Want clarificaton on Primary Password encryption

Your Thunderbird profile contains all the credentials needed to "be you" by having full access to all linked email accounts. In order to protect these accounts a Private Password can be created. It prevents someone trying to use Thunderbird as you (using your profile) from seeing the passwords or establishing connections to the email servers.

The question I have (and I believe was being asked) is, does using a Private Password actually encrypt the account credentials, or does it just block someone when they're using the Thunderbird program? Asked another way, would a bad actor with access to the profile and access to appropriate sleuthing tools be able to recover the credentials--from the files alone--thus bypassing the private password of the Thunderbird program?

There is a note at the bottom of the email that says: A unique identity matching the From address was not found. The message will be sent using the current From field and setting from identity Vince Hunter < omni232@telus.net> Can you give me instructions in laymans terms to fix this bug and return it back to the way it was?

When I boot up first thing, sometimes Emails OK, sometimes Email sending failure, previously sometimes Email receiving failure. Restarting PC or Tbird has no effect.

Can't compact folders

I have been having much trouble with Thunderbird. The latest problem is with the Sent folder. When I try to Compact Folders I get the message "The folder 'Sent on Local… (čitajće wjace)

I have been having much trouble with Thunderbird. The latest problem is with the Sent folder. When I try to Compact Folders I get the message "The folder 'Sent on Local' could not be compacted because writing to folder failed. Verify that you have enough disk space, and that you have write privileges to the file system, then try again."

I have plenty of disk space and have Full Control. I tried creating a temporary folder and moving all the Sent messages to it, so that Sent had zero messages. I still got the same message. The file listing showed Sent to have a size of 182 MB even though it didn't contain any messages. I've tried deleting sent.msf to force Thunderbird to recreate the index - didn't work. I tried using Repair Folder. That worked, but when I tried Compacting Folders again it found another folder with the same problem. I fixed that one and then it said the Sent folder was bad once again. I'm going around in circles!

I've deleted and recreated scores of .msf files for various reasons, trying to get Thunderbird to work without errors, but as soon as I get one problem fixed, another one crops up. I'd conclude that it's my computer, except that I'm not having any problems with other programs.

Any thoughts on this particular problem or Thunderbird problems in general? Thanks.

Hello. I want to archive my older e-mails to a Local Folder that I created. I set up Archiving to archive to an "Archive" subfolder on Local Folders. But when I select e-mails and try to archive them by right-clicking and choosing "Archive," they don't appear in the folder I created. A subfolder is created with the year of the e-mails as its name, but there's nothing in it. If I look at its Properties, it shows 0 messages. I also tried selecting e-mails and copying them to the local folder, but that doesn't work either. I get the same result. I also tried repairing the folders and closing and re-opening TBird, but no help.

My Thunderbird version is 68.12.1 64 bit, running on Windows 7 x64. Any help would be appreciated. I can provide any info that might be needed.

The new tbird created a xxx.default.sqr folder at some point. I get onef of the old addresses only. I have wasted 3 hours. I am willing to un-install and start over. I am somewhat familiar with unix and using a Terminal

Then could do an operation e.g. DELETE or MOVE on all the selected messages at once. That doesn't work anymore. Only one message can be selected at a time, and gets deselected when another message is selected. The CTRL key has no effect.

Today suddenly of my two email accounts, only one was opening when Firefox opened. All my folders were not visible, and the only thing I could see was the inbox for one email account. In the course of my "fixes" it's now even worse. I can only see one old archive folder (I think that's what it is). I tried reading in the forums and questions but nothing helps. I use Norton which some seem to say is a problem with updates, though it never used to be. I know where my stored emails and folders are for both accounts but Thunderbird does not seem to recognize them.

Our account settings are the same except for our names and email addresses. I noticed that under 'Edit SMTP server', changing her username also changes mine, which I suspect is part of the problem?

I have the columns subject/correspondence/date and that is all. I've tried many ways to get the emails back on screen, but can't see how. I'm not overly computer literate. Many thanks for any help.
