Removing bugged habit of non showing last session.
Hi !
I'm long time suffering a problem with newest firefox. (However, I believe it can occurs in any version.) Error occured during some crash in the past. From that time, when I launch FF, it will show me just homepage - as starting from virgin position. But, when I was ending my previous session, I closed it, with many cards opened (above 100). I have set in settings, that it has to remember this last session, and open it aka resume in new launch. Unfortunatelly it is not happening. Please help me with that. Only way I can reopen that last used session of tabs, is through Settings > History > Restore previous session. Note I don't use english language version, so wording may be slightly different, as it should be.
I'm not experienced used neither in programming, nor in editing 'about:config'. "about:config" is the finest editing thing I have found so far, because only by this, I was able to remove WhiteSmoke, searching malware engine.
I appreciate any help

Is the problem that you want it to open from the last session, or that the other session you spoke of keeps showing up?

Press the Alt or F10 key to bring up the tool bar. Followed by;
Windows; Tools > Options Linux; Edit > Preferences Mac; application name > Preferences
Then General.
There are two settings;
- When Firefox Starts
When the browser is started, what do you want to display. Many of us choose Show My Home Page.
- Home Page
When a new page is opened, what do you want displayed.
- Use Current Page. Use what ever page(s) are open at that time.
- Use Bookmark
- Restore To Default. about:home shows a Mozilla page with tools.
You can use any of these that you wish;
about:home (Firefox default home page), about:newtab (shows the sites most visited), about:blank (a blank page),
or you can enter any web page or about: page you want.

Thank you !
Problem was, that malware somehow changed my settings. Now I put it back, and it works.
But I often experience discomfort, when electricity blackout occurs. It obviously turn off pc. When I turn it on after it, some crash window appears, but I lose last few used tabs in my session or I lose whole last session. Therefore, where may I set to decrease time, after which will FF automatically save my tabs ? Like to check every minute for example. Also would be handy to set FF make hard backup of current session like every hour, for the case when super hard crash occurs.
I don't want use Session manager addon, because I guess it doesn't offer some timing autobackup, but mostly because I'm using old pc and I feel my FF is ponderous. I know it is mostly because I have opened 100 tabs in current session, but what I would like to do, is delete all unnecessary files. I'm using just important plugins (not addons) like adobe flash player... and no adddons.

As soon as you can, go to a good store that sells computers / equipment. Ask about an uninterruptible power supply (UPS). This is a battery that kicks in if the power goes out. You will have to decide about the size ( 5 min, 20, 45, 1hr, 2) that you want or need. $ $$ $$$ $$$$$ $$$$$$$$$ ALSO, many come with a cord to plug into the computer so that, if the battery is running low, it will shot down the computer safely for you. Look around, and ask questions. These also have surge protection.
As I mentioned, my FF is hulky. Because I have used a MozBackup program to move my FF from old pc session (before formatting and reinstalling OS), to current session.
I picked in that options just basic files to backup, but that program is old and not updated. Therefore, I may have here some unnecessary files or unwanted files, I definitelly need to remove. To make FF run fast and smooth even in old pc.
Which files are safe to remove please ?
I don't know what program you used. I use these;
These add-ons can be a great help by backing up and restoring Firefox
FEBE (Firefox Environment Backup Extension) {web link} FEBE allows you to quickly and easily backup your Firefox extensions, history, passwords, and more. In fact, it goes beyond just backing up -- It will actually rebuild your saved files individually into installable .xpi files. It will also make backup of files that you choose.
OPIE {web link} Import/Export extension preferences
These are the steps you should do.
- 1 Backup your data to a sub-folder.
- 2 Copy that sub-folder to a thumb drive (make sure big enough)
- 3 On new computer, get the Full installer
- 4 Once new FF is loaded, use the same program that you used to restore your data from the thumb drive.
Things to restore (all optional)
- 1 Bookmarks
- 2 History
- 3 Add-ons
Other thing like options, settings, cookies and so on should be redone from the new computer.
You can check for problems with the sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak files in the Firefox profile folder that store session data.
- Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
- http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
- http://kb.mozillazine.org/Multiple_profile_files_created
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost and you will have to recreate them (make a note or bookmark them if possible).
As I mentioned, I'm over that phase of backuping and restoring.
I need to figure, which files I can delete now from it. To make FF crease it's own new ones with smaller size maybe and etc..
Reset Firefox {web link} is a LAST RESORT ! !
