I am using Firefox 10(desktop) with McAfee(BT NetProtect Plus)

At each occasion that my PC is activated McAfee does a S/W upgrade to provide the latest security features/enhancements etc. a Pop-up window appears which requests the PC be restarted and provides two "radio buttons" titled Restart Now and Restart Later. Previously with other versions of Firefox the buttons were totally inactive but the pop-up window could be moved to hide it off-screen. Now the buttons "depress" when clicked on but nothing happens i.e. no restart and the pop-up is fixed and cannot not be moved or hidden so a restart has to be performed to clear the pop-up from the screen.

It sounds like this pop-up is created by McAfee, not Firefox. Is that correct? (see Is the pop-up coming from Firefox)

Hi, yes the pop-up is from McAfee. I have checked on Firefox support previously apparently the problem was caused by McAfee and a fix was awaited. If this an attempt at a fix it hasn't worked.

Well McAfee will have to be the one to take care of their "fix" :(

But I'd recommend unistalling it and the addons that it adds to Firefox. Here's a report one of the problems it causes http://blog.mozilla.com/nnethercote/2012/02/17/the-mcafee-site-advisor-add-on-has-an-appalling-memory-leak/

Here are instructions for uninstalling addons - Disable or remove Add-ons

As for another security software program, I always use Microsoft Security Essentials. It works well, it's free, gets updated all the time and doesn't cause any problems with Firefox.

I attempted to uninstall McAfee but this failed. I reported the problem to BT Support who also failed to remove it at the first attempt. After successful removal the re-install halted and a couple of "redundant" BT Yahoo programs had to be removed before it would complete the installation. Now it's a question of waiting to see if the issue has been resolved. If it hasn't I will remove McAfee and replace it with Microsoft Security Essentials as you suggested. Thanks for the advice.
