Hi, whenever I hit the home button the current page goes to my homepage AND also opens another tab - I just want to go to my homepage without opening another tab that I then have to close. Any ideas?
I've just switched to Firefox 4. Now, whenever I hit the home button the current page goes to my homepage (which is what I want) BUT, it also opens another tab - I just want to go to my homepage without opening another tab that I then have to close. Any ideas?

Gotcha. Go to your desired home page and close all tabs that you do NOT want to open when you click the home button. Then you have several ways to update the home page setting as described in the article.

It's possible to set two pages as your home page here:
Tools > Options > General
This article describes how it works: How to set the home page | How to | Firefox Help "Set more than one site as your home page"
I don't really want two homepages. Say I have one tab open and I'm done with the site I'm at and I want to go back to my homepage so I hit the home button. This takes me to my homepage, which is what I want. My problem is that in addition to taking me to my homepage, Firefox 4 also opens up another blank tab so that I now have two tabs open - my homepage and a blank. I end up with a bunch of open blank tabs that I don't want.

Thanks, that fixes it. I didn't know that one could set the home button to open several different pages at the same time. Thanks a lot!
You can also drag the tab or the website favicon (Site Identity Button) that you see on the left end side of the location bar on the toolbar Home button that you can find at the right end side of the Navigation Toolbar to only set that page as home page.
