Hello!

Firefox for Android consistently closes whenever I try to play a video in full screen mode.

The steps to replicate this bug are as follows: I go to a website that has a video (like YouTube), I start playing a video, and then I click on the full screen button. Firefox then closes out to the main menu of the home. When I try to reenter the app, the Firefox app becomes a black screen with a horribly offset tiny corner showing a portion of the webpage.

I cannot find any crash reports in the "about Firefox" subsection of the settings

I am using The latest version of Android 13 And my version of Firefox is 114.2.0 (Build #2015957435). I have tried clearing the app cache, and reinstalling the app. Neither fixes it.

Please let me know if I can provide anything further!

Does anyone have any recommended fixes?

Hi Adam

We have recently released version 115 of Firefox for Android which should hopefully be with you in the next few days (check for updates in the Google Play store). Please can you see if the same issue persists with the new update.

117.0 seemed to fix this extremely irritating problem but 117.1 brought it back.

3 out of 4 times when trying to put any video into full screen this ridiculous action occurs. Firefox minimises itself the video zooms in to a small corner of the picture as described by the previous report. The only way to solve it is to close Firefox reopen the website and try it again. It happens more frequently when the video is already playing. But it definitely can happen when the video is paused you click full screen and then click play.

I've reported this several times this all started approximately three to four updates in the past.

I happen to have a Google Pixel 7 Pro phone.

I agree. The latest update is now suffering from the same issues.

I was so happy when it appeared to have fixed by the previous update! But back to square one now.

Can anyone confirm if this occurs on other Android devices besides pixels (I didn't mention it in the previous post, because I thought only the Android version number mattered, but I too use a pixel. The pixel 4a)? Perhaps a Galaxy Samsung s23?

Hi

I am sorry to hear that Firefox for Android is crashing. I hope that we can help resolve this for you. Before following the steps below, please make sure that you have updated both your Android device and Firefox for Android to the latest versions available.

As a first step, close down many of the tabs that you have open to as few as possible. Does this help reduce the incidence of a crash?

If this does not resolve the issue, open the Android Settings app, select Applications then find Firefox in the list. In the section headed "Storage", selct the option to clear the cache (do not clear data!). Does this help?

Failing that, our developers will need to look into this in more detail with some logs from inside your copy of Firefox for Android. Type about:crashes in the address bar which will display information about recent crashes. If you select the most recent "Socorro" link, a crash report will open in a new tab. If you could copy and paste the address of the page that opens into a reply to this thread, we will be able to look into this further for you.

I hope that this helps.
