Cannot stream movies on computer anymore
Today I was no longer able to stream movies on Amazon Prime or Youtube. I watch Amazon movies most nights, watched last night. Tonight I got a message when I tried to continue watching a tv series on Amazon that I've watched for weeks. It said I had to update Firefox and told me how, but when I went thru the process Firefox said it was up to date. On Youtube I got an error msg. 99,999 . What is happening?

Without a screenshot of the error or error tracking to post trying to figure what's issue will be harder to know what's going on.
The error msg. on Amazon says I have to update Firefox and tells me the process to do so, which I did, as I mentioned. On YouTube it says error number 99,999. That's all I know. I have this page bookmarked because Mozilla is so large and it is hard for me to find this page. I don't know how to screenshot and get it to this page. I've done what I can to give complete info and have more if needed. I am being told my version of ff is outdated and to update to latest, but when I do ff tells me I am already updated to 115.18esr. As I mentioned in my original post.

First try to restart the computer before doing any updates to see if that clears up first.
I do that every time, clear history , data, so on. I will do it again today, now.

If this continues with just Firefox could be some possible corrupted Firefox files.
Hi Mark Warner.
I just restarted the computer, as you said. Then opened ff and went to Amazon Prime to try to watch a video. I got this msg.:
"Mozilla Firefox update required A later version of Mozilla Firefox is required for Prime Video. To update, click the menu button (three horizontal stripes) on the web browser toolbar, click Help, About Firefox, and then click Restart to update Firefox." This is the exact msg. as copied from the Amazon error msg. On FF it says I am up to date and have ver. 115.18 esr [channel].This is the extended support channel for Windows7,sp1. To me, FF isn't getting the msg. out to the other powers.
Does the other version of FF not work? It could be the esr isn't support by Amazon streaming that might be why your getting that message as well. Amazon streaming is different the just going to Amazon site. It probably related to Amazon streaming security checks and it deems that version is out of date to use the streaming services. You might want to contact Amazon streaming support and ask them this.
I can't stream movies, tv, anywhere I've tried. Amazon, Youtube, Plex, so on. Do you know how I can directly get this problem to Firefox?

Does not the latest FF 132.x or latest no install and work for W7?

Your Firefox reported that it is the Extended Support Release of Firefox 115 running on Windows 7. (Question Details > More system details)
Assuming that is correct, unfortunately, you have the latest Firefox that will run on Windows 7 (Firefox users on Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 moving to Extended Support Release).
Firefox Version
One thing to try would be to set Firefox to lie about your version number. I don't know whether this will work, but it's worth a try. Here's how:
(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button accepting the risk.
More info on about:config: Configuration Editor for Firefox. The moderators would like us to remind you that changes made through this back door aren't fully supported and aren't guaranteed to continue working in the future.
(2) In the search box in the page, type or paste forceVersion and pause while the list is filtered
(3) Double-click the network.http.useragent.forceVersion preference to display an editing field, and change the value to 128 then press Enter or click the blue check mark button to save the change.
I don't know whether this takes effect immediately, or whether you need to do a regular exit/restart of Firefox. Any improvement?
Widevine Version
Sites that use DRM-protected media may require a recent version of the Widevine plugin. I'm not sure exactly how Firefox updates it, but if this is the problem, hmm, that will require more research.
General ref. Watch DRM content on Firefox
I don't know. FF gives me downloads and says the download I mentioned is the one for me and I am up to date with it. Do you know how I can directly go to ff with this problem?

jscher. Thanks for the input. I have no idea of what you said. I am a senior and not literate enough in tech to do those things nor do I wish to go that route. My first post above has the details, and I am on the proper channel, extended support release; for my computer. As I have mentioned often, I was updated to 115.18 ESR . Why would I want to use some other thing? Imo the esr version is intended to allow me to do the usual things including streaming movies, tv series. But somehow there is a problem with ff not getting this info to the streaming services. How can I get in touch with FF directly to inform them of my problem?

I posted my question again today, Friday, Nov.29,'24. This time I had given a lot more info about my computer, its processor, and RAM and total memory. That question was removed. I can't find it but kept referring to it in my replies to your replies. So I am sorry and I don't understand why they'd delete the question with the most pertinent information, which would have helped you all to better answer. Thank to all for input. I am going to try to get directly to ff support if I can find a way.
Hi Shona, here's your other question: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1476486
