What is the purpose of naming all extensions 'add-on-(numbers)-latest.xpi' instead of the add-ons actual name? When I download an extension such as Quick Search Bar, for example, the file is saved as "addon-222210-latest.xpi" and I have to rename it to "Quick Search Bar 2.2.3-222210.xpi" so that I can locate and reinstall it later if I need to.

You can download it with the name of the add-on. To do that scroll down to the bottom of the page to the release notes section. If you use the link in that section it will contain the name and version of the add-on
