This model provides an alternative to the common ad-driven approach, ensuring that the company's incentives are fully aligned with those of the users. As highlighted by the Google founders in their [1998 paper](http://infolab.stanford.edu/pub/papers/google.pdf), "The goals of the advertising business model do not always correspond to providing quality search to users.". Kagi is a user-first service.
