Previously, my view of the Inbox folder displayed all messages, with the message header plus the message body contents. Now, some (but not all) messages display just the header but not the message body, and when I select the messages, the focus indicates that TB is viewing a different (usually the immediately-preceding) message, and NO contents/body are visible. I have tried to find out what is in the non-displayed message, and to force TB to focus on the offending message, but have had no success. From the message subject and header, some of these messages are important to me. How can I force TB to display them like it does the other messages. NOTE: Nothing in the message header indicates the messages with this problem are any different from the messages that are properly displayed.

In a foolish attempt to quickly reorganize, I moved a VITAL folder from Local Folders to a n EMail Account folder. I have done this a couple of times before over the years without problems but never with this large of a folder. Foolishly, I trusted the process and DID NOT DO A BACKUP first. (You would think I would have learned after 40+ years not to trust past experience, only Backups.)

After the move, the original folder remains but is empty and the new folder contains less than 95% of the original contents. Is there ANY recover process available? The old Thunderbird used to just tag deleted and moved contents until you compacted the data so you could manually recover.

Does such an option exist?

Any ideas or suggestions would be GREATLY appreciate as this is a folder containing communications associated with a Non-Profit for which I am the Chair. Client mode is off-line and all mail is downloaded from the Server at each check so the Mail Server is not an option.

Thanks in advance for any morsels of wisdom... Besides BACKUP!

Spontaneous appearance of new folders among Local Folders:

Another Thunderbird user, a member of our computer club, has experienced a strange event in his TB folder structure. He regularly saves incoming emails to his Local Folders (from one or other of two IMAP accounts). Recently he has found that new folders have appeared spontaneously among his Local Folders, usually bearing the name of an existing folder with name suffixed with "- 1" then "- 2", as in "<oldname> - 1". One folder seemed to be a copy of an old folder including most of its contents; others have had only one, or no contents.

Host OS is Windows 10. Our member has Version 128 of TB with automatic updating. We have replaced his Profile (by renaming the old Profile) but the problem has returned. At the return one of the new folders has a name of this form: "<Personal name of friend>.msf.compact - backup".

Has anyone else seen this behaviour? What might be the cause? Do we need to uninstall and reinstall Thunderbird to cure this sickness?

(Our computer club is Melbourne PC User Group, Australia.)

This is a continuation of a problem I reported earlier... https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1442170

Updating to version 115.9 did not solve the problem. Today I updated to 115.10.1 and the problem persists. Thunderbird is also recommending that I update to version 116, but I don't even see that listed on the Mozilla web page for the change logs.

Thunderbird 115.10.1, Mac OS 10.13.6, iMac 20-in Early 2008 model.

I can open Thunderbird and check mail in multiple accounts. If I close the Thunderbird window (but leave the app running), CPU usage will eventually jump up to more than 100%. It does not happen right away, but could take 10 minutes or so. Currently it is at 115% processor usage. If I open the Thunderbird window again, the processor usage drops to under 8%, then drops again to below 0.4%.

I was trying to help a friend set up her Gmail account in Thunderbird and after putting in all the settings, a window popped up asking me to allow Thunderbird to access Gmail, but the button to select allow was at the bottom of the window, below the bottom of my screen, and there was no way to scroll all the way down. I also was unable to make the window smaller. So I was unable to set up the account.

I figured this was a problem caused by Google, because I had set up an account with another provider (Sonic) without trouble. But when I tried to work with the address book for that account, I ran into problems with the Thunderbird window being too wide for the screen, and it was very difficult to access buttons there too. I had to move the entire window sideways off the screen, and extend the window even further to find the edit button. I never did find a save button that I assume is on the bottom of that window.

On my own system I still use a very old version of Thunderbird, and never run into such problems, but this newest version that I downloaded a few days ago looks and functions quite different. Also my friend is on a Mac, and my own system is a PC, so perhaps the Mac version functions differently than the one for PC?

I would appreciate any insight to adjust the windows to a workable size on the screen, and to set up my friend's Gmail account.

Thanks so much.

You have recently released version Thunderbird 128.1.1 in which you have changed the Compact View so that it is effectively no longer a Compact View, because the spaces have been increased between the Folders in the sidebar folder pane. I have been using Thunderbird for a couple of months and really liked the Compact View but now it has been spoiled. I don't understand why it was necessary to change this, and would be grateful if you would please revert the Compact View to how it appeared in version 115

Kind regards

Version: 128.2.3esr (64-bit) on Windows 11 Click on an open tab (other than main inbox tab) and Thunderbird partially minimalises, showing only a small part of the thunderbird screen.

Clicking on a email in the email receive list and instead of the body of the email apprearing in the view window, it opens in a new tab

Highlight more than 2 or 3 messages in the email list to action them and before I can, they all open. It is impossible to select a series of emails to delete, move or tag them because after 2 or 3 they all open. Closing all the open tabs then leaves the emails highlighted and I can then perform whatever action I need, but this is strange new behavaiour. In fact all 4 issues are new.

Clicking on the down arrow on the keyboard does not always move the cursor to the next email in the list. Can anyone suggest a solution please? Michael

For the last couple weeks I have been unable to rename, delete, add to, or edit my email storage folders under any of my email pop accounts. I have not made any changes to the set up during this time. Only TB upgrades.

I CAN move email messages into and out of the folders. No problem there. I can also receive and send emails with no problem.

I have 128.2esr(64-bit) running on the latest Windows. This problem occurs on both my laptop and desktop.

I am testing a private POP3 mail server, so I set up an account in Thunderbird for it. I set it to check for email every minute.

I have since shut the server down, but Thunderbird is giving me no warning that it is unable to fetch new messages for the account, which I find surprising.

What is the expected behaviour?
