When I hover over links in Safe Mode I can get a preview of the text, but not in Normal startup - what could be causing the problem?

For example, in message boards, I used to be able to see the first line or so of text by hovering over the link - on a new computer, I can't. I don't know if it's a setting on the latest version of Firefox (installed on the new machine), but when I start up in Safe Mode it does show me the preview. Any advice would be appreciated.
