When printing emails my printer is now printing the long trail of how it arrived before printing the actual email.

Chosen solution

I assume you have a log of the same sort of "garbage" in the header shown in each email in Thunderbird as well.

Press F10 to make the main menu bar visible if it is not already.

On the view menu select header and set it back to normal.

It is a bit of a tricky one that. There is nothing anywhere that actually tells you the setting affects the user interface AND printing.
