Firefox scrolling is choppy and lags when link is loading for a long time
I am using the latest version of Firefox Quantum: Version 57.0.4.
Sometimes when I click on a link in the google search results page, the page loading animation shows its loading the page for a long time. if I scroll up and down now, it is choppy and lags. However, when I click on links within actual web pages and if the page loading animation plays for long time, scrolling is fine. I set accessibility.force_disabled to a value of 1 in about:config settings, but this does not fix the problem. It seems like this problem only happens while I am on the google search results page. Also, this choppy behavior occurs even if I turn off autoscrolling and smooth scrolling or even if I turn off smooth scrolling while leaving autoscrolling on. Any ideas as to how to fix this issue. It is annoying. I like Firefox quantum a lot and I don't want to have to switch over to chrome just because of this issue. Any help would be much appreciated. I have included a copy of the trouble shooting info here. Thanks.

Please uninstall Firefox. Then Delete the Mozilla Firefox Folders in C:\Program Files and C:\Program Files(x86) Then restart system. Then run Windows Disk Cleanup. (Note: This should be Pinned and run Weekly, If never done below expect 10's of gig's) Then run it again and click the button that says Cleanup System Files. Note: your Firefox Profile is saved. But you should make a back up before you do :

Reinstall with Current Release Firefox 57.0.4 with a Full Version Installer
Please after the above : go to the Firefox 3 Bar Menu --> Options --> Privacy & Security panel and under Permissions check (put a tick in the box) the setting to Prevent Accessibility Services from accessing your browser.
Monitor in Task Manager. Should stay below 2 gigs. If excessive then do below and monitor and change if need to...Test and go up again , go back down, it will eventually get a zone you and it can live with.
Go to the 3 Bar Menu then Options --> General --> Performance and untick everything. change the recommended size lower then see how it runs. Note: 1 = No Multiprocessor = slow again. Try 2 Restart Firefox after making these changes please.
Note : Hardware Acceleration is for Video Card, Monitor to see if remain off or to turn back on.
Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.
Hi. I did everything as you instructed, but I am still experiencing the scrolling problem. This problem does not happen with the chrome browser though. What else can I do to to fix this?
I read that if I set the settings attribute "layout.frame_rate.precise" in the about:config settings to "enable" it may solve choppy scrolling problems, but I don't see the "layout.frame_rate.precise" attribute in the about:config settings. I only see the "layout.frame_rate" attribute and it is set to the value "-1". Do I have to play around with this attribute? If so, what should be its value? It would be a shame to have to switch back to the chrome browser because of this issue with Firefox. Any further help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.
- switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
- do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window
- https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode

Current Firefox releases have multi-process windows enabled. You can look in "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) to see the current multi-process state.
- "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" -> "Application Basics":
Multiprocess Windows
Web Content Processes
You may see three or more Firefox processes running.
- one process for the main Firefox thread (user interface)
- one or more content processes set via dom.ipc.processCount
Options/Preferences -> General -> Performance ->
remove checkmark: [ ] "Use recommended performance settings" - one process for the compositor thread (Windows;graphics)
Try to set the number of content processes to 1 to see if that work better (less memory and better response).

I followed your instructions to the Tee also, but no luck. Am I out of options?
If did not do my answer then possibly.
Then there is no solution to this. Can someone out there help? If not, I will have to go back to using chrome. I appreciate everyone's help. Thanks.
