My address shows my contacts by first name only. I know the last names are there as my emails show first & last names. Selecting a contact to send an email to is kinda hard when contacts are listed as only 'Bill', 'Bob' and 'Ann'.

shows first name where?

The names as listed in the address book.

Actually, I discovered that the first name is put in the last name slot, The last name is put in the nickname slot, which explains why no last names. However... There are no email addresses attached to the names, which makes for a crummy address book.

There is some problem with the several import attempts I have done, all with the same result.

I will point out again that when my emails are viewed, correct address' and associated names are given indicating that my imported address book is stored within Thunderbird somewhere. Just not under 'Address Book'

I assume from the mess you have as an address book you are importing from a CSV file. Would that be correct?
