My desktop crashed and I had to get a new hard drive and motherboard. I got a new os too, it's win 7 pro. Now when I try to download media from bit comet from any of the torrents on the site I cannot browse the internet. What happens is a page comes up and says "cannot connect to server" and other pages to that affect, but when I stop a download I can browse normally. Why?

Nothing to do with your question, but websites like Bit Comet and Pirate Bay are illegal. Any websites in which you can download paid content for free violates the international piracy laws and you may face a legal penalty for using them.

In response to your question; many of these torrent websites are loaded with viruses. One of these infections may be preventing you from browsing while downloading.

Hello FIDDLEHEADSTEW, it is a little....common, because torrent clients when are active "eats" a lot of bandwidth with upload/download at the same time action.

thank you
