Thunderbird now downloads mail from the server even when it is closed

Over the past coiuple of months, I have found that Thunderbird (102.2.2) on my Windows PC is downloading my mail from the TalkTalk server even when Thunderbird is closed. This means that I cannot use my Android tablet to download mail as it has already been downloaded to my PC.

I can see no evidence that Thunderbird is active in the Task Manager.

Do you have Thunderbird set to minimize to tray?

If you do, then the closing the Thunderbird window does not terminate thunderbird. You must do File > Exit

Thanks, but that did not solve it. I normally close Thunderbird with the small red cross at the top right, but thought I would try File > Exit, but no luck.

If Thunderbrd had just been minimised, it would appear in the Task Manager.
