I found the instructions re. importing bookmarks into Firefox from Safari. (I'm a Mac laptop user).

BUT, I can't do the first step, which is to click on import under File in the toolbar. Import is greyed-out and so won't let me click on it.

Any help?

Make sure that you not run Firefox in permanent Private Browsing mode.

  • You enter Private Browsing mode if you select: Firefox > Preferences > Privacy > History: Firefox will: "Never Remember History"
  • To see all History and Cookie settings, choose: Firefox > Preferences > Privacy, choose the setting Firefox will: Use custom settings for history
  • Deselect: [ ] "Permanent Private Browsing mode"

Did you try to export the Bookmarks in Safari to an HTML file and import that HTML backup in Firefox?

I never seem to have anything but problems when I try to use Firefox. I have the same problem as you. Truth is, I just downloaded the new version of Firefox, and it asked me if I wanted to automatically import my Safari bookmarks, and I chose to do that. And it didn't do it. I guess I will do what I always do... give up and keep using Safari. It is wonderful! And runs with no problems.
