I made a filter to copy inbox file to second folder called inbox copy to keep all files available for later use if needed. How can I do this so it keeps all messages?

Chosen solution

That would do it. It means you have a separate second copy.

You're duplicating something that gmail already do for you. Look for the All Mail folder.

Copying all your messages sounds inefficient. Why not just file them into appropriate folders?

Anyhow, who is your email provider? I'm thinking that if it's Gmail, you may in fact have only one instance of each message but with multiple labels.

I do have gmail. I have used this system for years and it works great. Small inbox yet searchable copy folder. Is there a setting I can change to save a new instance?

I am IMAP. I have decided to put the copy folder in the Local Folders area. That has solved my problem. Thanks for responding.
