Since updating to v38.0 this morning I'm unable to run Java. I have the 8u45 plug-in installed (Ask to activate). Using the ’Verify Java version’ utility (Do I have Java?) at java.com yields the response: "We are unable to verify if java is currently installed and enabled in your browser". My PC system is a 64-bit Windows 7 EP, SP1.

You may neeed both the 32bit version and 64bit version: "Firefox To determine whether you are running on a 64-bit version of Firefox, use either of these methods.

   Check the About Firefox panel
Type in the browser address about:support

If you are running 64-bit Firefox, it may be indicated as 64-bit (e.g., Win64), otherwise it is a 32-bit version of Firefox."

Installing 64-bit java doesn't solve the problem.

I have realized that before showing "We are unable to verify if java is currently installed and enabled in your browser" the ’Verify Java version’ utility (Do I have Java?) at java.com for a while shows a more detailed error message:

NullPointerException - Error while initializing managers Details: Java Plug-in 11.45.2.14 Using JRE version 1.8.0_45-b14 Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (...) java.lang.NullPointerException at sun.plugin2.applet.JNLP2Manager.initialize(Unknown Source) at sun.plugin2.main.client.PluginMain.initManager(Unknown Source) at sun.plugin2.main.client.PluginMain.access$200(Unknown Source) at sun.plugin2.main.client.PluginMain$2.run(Unknown Source) at java.lang.Thread.run(Unknown Source) Error while initializing manager: java.lang.NullPointerException, bail out

Looks like it was a bug: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=2934623&sid=d03...

One work around I read that you stop Java from caching from the Java Console.
