Thunderbird accounts disappeared after copying .thunderbird folder to other folder for backup (still gone after deleting duplicate)

Hello,

I copied the .thunderbird folder to another folder on my computer (Ubuntu on Dell Laptop) for backing up, re-opened Thunderbird: accounts all gone; asking me to set up an email account. I have deleted the duplicate folder but the accounts are still gone when I restart (original .thunderbird folder still in original location)!

I have tried using profile manager to find/reactivate the profile as suggested on online support page (creating a profile with my name instead of the random.default profile) - but this didn't work.

I am reasonably computer-literate but not a developer/programer so normal language would be appreciated!

Thanks. Adrian

Chosen solution

fixed it myself - confusing things happened but luckily I found the right .default profile in the end!

Sorry for duplicating this from an hour ago - I thought that the original had not been posted after I went through the registration process and looked on the thunderbird/support forums (it isn't there - I still don't know what the difference is between this place and the support forum?!!!)
