Pop3Client not sending QUIT message

hi Recently TBird has been downloading some emails repeatedly, and on inspecting the Pop3Client log in the console it appears that in these instances it is not sending the QUIT message.

Correct behaviour: 19:02:45.695 pop3.server2.477: C: DELE 1 Pop3Client.sys.mjs:573:20 19:02:45.705 pop3.server2.477: S: +OK Marked to be deleted. 19:02:45.898 pop3.server2.477: Folder lock released. Pop3Client.sys.mjs:1371:22 19:02:45.898 pop3.server2.477: Done with status=0x0 Pop3Client.sys.mjs:1616:18 19:02:45.965 pop3.server2.477: C: QUIT Pop3Client.sys.mjs:573:20 19:02:46.063 pop3.server2.477: Connection closed. Pop3Client.sys.mjs:447:18 19:02:46.064 pop3.server2.477: S: +OK Logging out, messages deleted.

Failure - email remains on server: 09:59:24.571 pop3.server2.277: C: DELE 1 Pop3Client.sys.mjs:573:20 09:59:24.594 pop3.server2.277: S: +OK Marked to be deleted. 10:00:10.314 pop3.server2.277: Folder lock released. Any ideas on what is causing the missing QUIT message? Note the 40s gap before the folder lock release - could that be related? At this point TBird usually has a spinning cursor and says Not Responding in the title bar.
