Flash Player does not work properly

I have Firefox v 3.6.11, XP(SP3) , Avast AV, Windows Firewall.

I have noticed that over last couple months playback of flash content has been poor. The audio feed plays ok but the video is not smooth, staccato like and normally 'sticks' during playback. I have no such issues during playback when viewing flash videos in IE8.

Any idea what could be causing this poor playback performance

i think that you may have misunderstood. The flash player does not crash - it's video content does not play smoothly in Firefox but does so in IE8. Please see description of issue in original post. Thanks

There is more in that article.
It is possible that your firewall isn't fully allowing the plugin-container process.
You can test that by disabling OOPP as written in that article..

thanks for your further input - however disabling the OOPP and AV did not really make too much of a difference. The playback continues to be sluggish/sticky when compared with playback in IE8. I am really baffled why I cannot achieve smooth playback in Firefox. I seem to recollect that I did not have such issues a few months ago - or was this a dream?
