i don't know is it just me? i have used forums all over the web and to post a new question, you just click on the "New Post" button or something similar.

why is it here in Firefox, that button is not there? you have to jump thru several layers of questions and answers before being able to post a question like this one!!

To the firefox forum maintainers, please create a "New Post" button instead of forcing us thru several layers of questions.

You did create a new question thread!

As far as changing how this forum works with a "New Post" button - ain't gonna happen. Although I myself don't agree with how "ask a new question" works, the people at Mozilla who developed this forum software have their reasons for the "layer of questions"; too many questions that users ask could have been answered via visiting the Knowledge Base or by searching this forum for the same questions that have already been answered.

If you really want a more traditional support forum, try using MozillaZine fora which has been around since long before Mozilla decided to open this forum in 2007 - 2008. http://forums.mozillazine.org/index.php

Or use reddit/r/firefox: https://www.reddit.com/r/firefox/

Hello badbanana,

Maybe you'd like to submit feedback on one of these (or all of them) :

Input page: https://qsurvey.mozilla.com/s3/FirefoxInput/

Twitter: https://twitter.com/firefox

Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Firefox

Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/firefox/

(FWIW : I totally agree with you  !)

A few pages is not several layers or a dozen plus pages that you are making it out to be.

This forum helps to support a number of other things besides the desktop Firefox in case you missed that as you can see at https://support.mozilla.org and https://support.mozilla.org/questions

Even though Thunderbird has not been a Mozilla product for a while now they have been generous in still providing a place for people to get support with Thunderbird related things. Otherwise the only other forum option people have is at the independent mozillaZine forums.

The traditional way of easily creating new threads is not a good thing for here. If you have spent time on support forums that has the easy way of creating threads, you likely have seen frustration that the regulars and mods have towards people who create duplicate threads asking the same thing over and over on some subjects. Why well they may not be bothered to search first or read helpful Sticky threads first or be aware of the Knowledge Base the support site may have.

Were you aware of the Knowledge Base here before you posted this thread?

Also the more traditional easy way of creating a new thread would very likely increase spam attempts on this forum as forums that use software like phpBB get spammed way too easily due to the ease of creating new threads.

Also Mozilla prefers people ask their question(s) in their own thread (and not hijack existing ones) as to why you create your account upon making your first thread. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/forum-rules-and-guidelines#w_posting-support-requests

The way it is now for creating new threads has been much the same since 2010 update then and even initial 2007/2008 start.

Hello deano0000,

May I suggest to start your own thread and post a question using this link :

...searching this forum for the same questions that have already been answered....

Ah, but why is the Searching here only 'Or' and not also a choice of 'AND'? I've seen a lot of unnecessary results listed first, before I ran across something relevant in the Search Results at the bottom or on page 2 or 3. (Sigh) Ironic that the more search terms used brings up more undesirable results, where if there was an 'AND' option, that would help a lot, eh?

no, the o.p. has a valid point.

moreover, what makes the matter egregious is that the moderators close and archive posts so that no new questions can be posted

this makes the forum totally TOTALLY dysfunctional, as the old threads are OLD, they are not keeping up with the version history, so when things change, and the thread is no longer applicable, we can not ask for a new solution (to a lingering problem fix)

so the only thing the o.p. has failed to point out is that the problem is compounded by closing and archiving threads

Yes, to the locked Message Threads, but one can post a new question - even the same question if need be.

Older threads get archived automatically, a set time period after each thread hasn't had any further responses and is inactive. Moderators have no control over that.

As far as "locking" a thread, that can be done by Admin types and by Moderators "for cause", whatever the reason.

Overall, the intended use of this forum is answering each user's question to their satisfaction; users who "pop in" later and many times ask a different and off-topic question may get ignored. The solution is to ask new question which we can answer directly.

Granted the search functionality of this forum and the Knowledge Base just plain sucks, but its been that way for the 12 years that this forum was started by Mozilla.

I have better luck with searches of the KB by using a SUMO search engine that I got from The Mycroft Project a number of years ago. But sadly when the search feature in Firefox was changed over year ago the search engines available from Mycroft won't install (at least the last time I checked).

Fully agree! there is little more infuriating than having to follow infinite recursive loops simply trying to ask a question! The latest 66.0.05 (64-bit) has disabled the desktop "discord" link I really do not expect to have to waste my time seeking to achieve correction to an update error which should have been properly beta tested! Thank you.

I'm new to all this - just trying to pose a basic question - why no direct button ?

A new version of Firefox is conflicting with the message facility on Santander online banking website. I need to fix it.

        • 7-20-19 - Just uploaded new version 68.0.1 Quantum. This version as in the previous version made it pretty much impossible to be able to ask a question. Yes, there are FAQ's. As usual, none of them pertain to question asked.
        • This not being able to ask a question problem was precipitated by my not being to be able to find out how to "turn off cookies", and then "turn them on again". These new versions seem to be able to delete all cookies, allow you to choose which cookies you'd like, but no logical way to turn them off temporarily.

So, there you go. p.s. W/greatly appreciate assistance with both these matters, """However . . . if your only going to suggest going back to an old version from 1000bc . . . don't bother. Just in case no one has mentioned it to you before ... that isn't helpful in the least, and it is insulting! Thx
