"Create New Calendar" dialog has found my calendar, but shows it greyed out

I am using the New Calendar button, entering my webdav URL (this is the same URL in use by other accounts, successfully so I know it is correct)

Following the password prompt (known password, tested via another login page to the same service, immediately prior to confirm it is correct)

"Create New Calendar" dialog has found my calendar, displays it in the list, but it is greyed out.

Why can Thunderbird not add this calendar if it found it? There is no feedback that I can see that disqualifies it?
