All of a sudden when I log in to Thunderbird my AOL email account opens a separate window to log in to receive messages. Want to get rid of this, might have to just use another email service, all my other email accounts work fine with Thunderbird,

That is probably the OAuth2 browser window asking you to authenticate the account. Just enter the account password once and the window should not appear next time. Check that cookies are allowed in TB Options/Privacy & Security so the OAuth process completes.
