Hi everyone.
Since I constantly switch between multiple computers, some of them Windows, some Ubuntu, some dual boot, I have installed portable clients for both platforms onto an USB stick. These are set up to use the same profile folder. Generally, this works fine.
However, I have one issue with my POP3 accounts, which are set up to keep messages on the server for 7 days. After I have fetched a message with the Linux client, checking for messages with the Windows client will fetch the message again, resulting in duplicates.
I checked the data being written to popstate.dat and checked the knowledge base to find out the issue. I found out that the "Flag" (always "k") and "UIDL" sections are written identically by the two clients, but the "Timestamp" section is different, which causes the issue. According to the knowledge base, "The message's time stamp in the file corresponds to the date and time in the From - line at the top of the message source." Needless to say that the message sources of the duplicates are identical, so this doesn't add up.
So here are my questions: 1. Why is a timestamp written to popstate.dat in the first place? Shouldn't the UIDL be enough to uniquely identify a message? 2. Why is the timestamp calculated differently from the same source data on Linux and Windows clients?

Having sought help from the French (my mother tong) TB forum, one suggested to replace those settings for: pop.orange.fr Port 995, default 110 SMTP France Telecom / Orange Port 465, default 587 As a result I no longer received the ERROR message asking me for a password, instead a small blue segment showed on the bottom right of my screen and, after a while...nothing: no mail IN no mail OUT. I tried these new settings on the two other accounts with just the same result: no mail IN no mail OUT. So I went back to the original ones.
Has anyone a clue?

Dans l'icône thunderbird de la barre en bas de l'écran, il est indiqué que j'ai reçu 40 mail ? Hi, I am moving from Outlook and struggling with Thunderbird email accounts I wish to setup 5 mail accounts, four of which relate to different people or departments and on that collects incoming email from mailboxes that are re-directed. I find that I can set up the outgoing smtp and the incoming smtp but I am not give any choice for sending mail. Also whatever I do the first account I set up always appears as the only account visible in the folders pane. If there is a definitive explanation of what to do to configure email in Thunderbird it would be most helpful?

I could send email by moving my messages to the Draft folder, opening each one, and choosing File -> Send Now. But when I tried just now, "Send Now" was greyed out.

A couple of days ago I changed the message filtering and evidently got that very wrong. The total number of messages in a folder seems to be correct but the quantity of messages displayed in that folder is way too few. Any clues? Thank you

I have a contact email list in my address book. It is a sublist of the entire address book, but I cannot seem to edit it. I can't delete or add contacts to this list. I have tried to edit the list using the "Edit list" option from the three dot drop down menu associated with this particular list, but after making changes and clicking "OK" my changes are not saved. Any ideas?
Why is it that I can't send some emails and cant copy to Local or delete from Local? Nothing works right since last update.

Hi folks, for some months now it has been taking several minutes to download my mails from my provider Netcologne to my Thunderbird mail client. My version: 128.6.0esr (64-bit) OS Windows 10 home 22H2 Previous activities: 1. fault report to provider Netcologne, reply: No error detectable 2. installation of mail client ‘eM Client’. Mails are downloaded in a few seconds, just like a few months ago with Thunderbird mail client.

Since January 8th, 2025 I have not been able to send or receive mail on a regular basis out of Thunderbird. the strange thing is sometimes I can start Thunderbird and it will maybe download current messages, but won't work the rest of the day. Even getting a once in awhile batch of e-mail, I can't send anything at anytime. I don not have a problem going to Earthlink.net/webmail and reading my mail there, but it is not always easy to do this.....thus Thunderbird!!

All of this has not changed since mozilla made changes years ago and they are the same settings that are reccommended by Mozilla Thunderbird for the ix.netcom.com people.
I sure have to have to move to another progam, but I can't keep putting up with this. Hopefully someone can help!! I've added images of my settings and also of the error message I get when trying to send mail. BTW We had about 5 sessions with the India help desk at which we kept getting cut off. When finally getting to chat with someone....they had no answers, they said they would esculate the problem and someone would call in 24 hrs. That never happened...The case ID # 203683399 NO ONE EVER RESPONDED and so the problem persists.

Using POP account. Can get Thunderbird to hold all information. But when it tries to login to server says it cannot. This started 2 days ago. Also email from another different account ( IMAP) is painfully slow. Thunderbird says it is fully updated. Thunderbird often goes into not responding spinning wheel.
server is mail.(server).com pop puts it at 995 port, email carrier (Spectrum) says should be SSL on but choices are only TLS/SSL or STARTTLS what to use, also should password be used.

I have successfully signed into a Matrix chat and there was a list of messages I could read. But in most later Thunderbird sessions, the Window stays emtpy although in the bottom right corner of the screen popup windows with Matrix messages do appear. In the left pane the rooms I have entered should be displayed, but they are not. When I re-enter a room by hitting the button and re-typing the room's name, the list of joined chats, consisting of this one, appears in the left pane for the fraction of a second. I don't see any item in the config options for chat where I could have screwed something up.

They directed me to the online version to achieve the recovery and it worked well. I am need again and cannot locate those instructions. To be clear, the procedure was from the support team guiding the way. Anyone have possession of these instructions or algorithm, or a better method that still works? Many thanks :)
