Have searched Forums for quite some time now. Cannot find a correct answer to: how do I prevent my old email address from appearing as the "from:" address when I use a "send this" link on a webpage/news article. The email window opens and automatically inserts my old Hotmail address instead of the Yahoo address I've used for a long time. (The drop-down won't let me change it or delete it.) Thanks.

Could you check with site runs when you use that feature? It should be the one set in the following dialog:

orange Firefox button or classic Tools menu > Options > Applications

In the search box type or paste mailto and pause while the list is filtered. Is the drop-down on the right set to Yahoo?

If you mail client software (e.g., Thunderbird, Outlook Express, Outlook) runs instead of a webmail site, which mail client software is it?

Yes - mailto is set to Yahoo.

I chose a random news article ( http://ca.news.yahoo.com/winning-tickets-ontario-bc-share-50-million-lotto-070507104.html ) and clicked on the "email" envelope. The pop-up shows my old email address in the "from" field. This is what I'm trying to correct.

Do you get a drop down list with suggestions if you clear that "from" field and click elsewhere on that page to move the focus off that field and then double-click again in that field or start typing the first letters of that unwanted email address?

Use these steps to remove saved (form) data from a drop down list:

  1. Click the (empty) input field on the web page to open the drop down list
  2. Highlight an entry in the drop down list
  3. Press the Delete key (on Mac: Shift+Delete) to remove it.

When I click Yahoo's Email button in the page, I see a similar thing: Yahoo defaults to my alternate address (the address used to reset my password). That address precedes my Yahoo address alphabetically, so perhaps that's the problem. I don't see a place to change the order in the Yahoo mail settings.

Some website features can be changed by add-ons or userscripts. However, if one does not already exist for this, it could be a considerable effort to develop...

The following change seems to have worked for me: I made my yahoo.com address my Primary address.

(1) In the upper left corner, click Hi, yourname then Account Info
(2) Enter password to continue
(3) Assuming your non-Yahoo address is marked "Primary" click the corresponding Change link
(4) Choose your Yahoo address as Primary and click the Save button

Unfortunately, my Yahoo address IS shown as the primary address. Still, my alternate address is shown as the "From:" address when sending news articles. Found instructions in Yahoo's "Help" on how to change your "From" name, but even those instructions aren't helping me as their "Save" button isn't working. I can't win !
