Thunderbird - Copies of Emails No Longer Stored on Mail Server?

Hello, Thunderbirders -

Much prefer Thunderbird bird to Outlook, but now dealing with an significant issue and hoping for help!

Our domain & mail server (HostGator) was recently subjected to an offshore cyber attack that hamstrung more of their clients than just ourselves. During the resolution, the HostGator tech was obliged (so he says) to wipe all our previous messages and essentially start the account all over again, so when I logged in to Thunderbird with the new password, eight (8) years' worth of e-mails were gone; they no longer exist on HostGator, and they themselves don't have any of them backed up :(

However, I have Thunderbird also running on a second computer on which I have not yet logged in with the new password; all the e-mails (at least the message titles) are still showing, and I am not attempting to open any of them while online. So my question is, does Thunderbird have any folder, perhaps not readily apparent, where copies of these messages still exist and may be recovered, absent pinging the host server? None of them were archived; they're all in my Inbox.

If no such duplicates exist anywhere off the server, can I create a secondary Thunderbird account to run on both my primary and secondary computers to send/receive along side the previous account, which can in some way be prevented to communicating with the host? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I called Spectrum technical support and asked them for the incoming and outgoing port numbers. Their incoming port is 993 and their outgoing port is 587. When I go back to change and think everything is fine and try to send a message it fails. It fails because something has reversed the port numbers to exactly the opposite of what they should be. I can receive email but cannot send email. Is there something going on that I don't know about? Thanks for your help.

When I click on any message, another (unrelated) message appears in the lower pane. The message that appears is always the same message; it is from hello@genomelink.io. The correct subject and sender appear OK in the upper pane; it's just the full message in the lower pane that is weird. This happens with most messages, but a few do appear correctly.

Implementation of current Profile after T-Bird 128 Upgrade

I've been on Thunderbird for almost 20 years and a Mozilla fan. Have evolved a fairly elaborate configuration of local (POP) email folders, rules, calendar, and accounts to manage & organize email activity, retention, archiving, etc. I've not had to deal with Profiles in previous upgrades and don't have much experience with it.

The recent Oct 1 push of Firefox & Thunderbird 131.0 releases took me by surprise. I was able to re-implement the previous Firefox profile to recover bookmarks, cookies, passwords, etc. However, when T-Bird warned that 131.0 was Beta & unsupported I took the suggestion to download & install the current supported release: 128.3.0 (I was on 128.2.3). Then hell came.

Once downloaded, installed & launched, Thunderbird 128.3 cautioned the new profile created with T-Bird 131.0 was incompatible with previous versions and that I should create a new one, which I did. Still could not get new T-Bird to recognize previous profile, so I tried uninstalling, downloading & reinstalling 128.3 multiple times, each time prompted to create a new profile before proceeding. I tried to follow the previous profile restoration process detailed on support forums & articles, but none seemed specifically relevant to my situation.

I located my profiles in the appdata roaming profile folder, including what I think are most recent based on size of mail folders. Can't determine whether I had just one or several in use due to the extent of my setup. Could really use some help & advice to: 1) Determine which profile was in most recent use prior to T-Bird upgrade. 2) Whether more than one profile was in use. 3) Re-implement the profile I was using on T-Bird 128.2.3 with my new 128.3.0

Regards & many thanks in advance, John C Houston

PS You'll ask why I would upgrade to 131.0 from 128.2.3. Answer: it was on auto-update and 131.0 is what was pushed. No more auto-updates for this guy!

Dear Thunderbird team I am an avid user of TB (home desktop Windows PCs), but I have been resting on my laurels on v78 for a few years now. I know, shame on me. I would like to upgrade to a stable "modern" release (emphasis on "stable" please). Can you please advise if I should aspire to end up on 115 or 128, and how I might get there ? From reading some older blogs, there is advice that says.... first go to v91, then v102, then v115, and so. That seems a bit tortuous, but I am happy to do so if that is still the recommended approach.

Also, can you advise on how I manage my Profile through all this, do I need to do various exports/imports as I move through these different versions, etc.

Many Thanks

simply want to enlarge From column - before Nebula - just do it. Now, pain in the back - only lets you do a bit and moves everything else and still doesn't let me do what I used to do. What a mess they made out of a great program !

I have two iCloud mails in Thunderbird. The older one runs great. For the other new one - same settings - mails sent often appear totally blank in the sent folder. Going to the iCloud webmail, sent messages appear totally normal and mails are sent to destination without any problem. I tried everything, no avail. Also weird is I have two "sent" folders (for no clear reason). Both have this issue, not always. See screenshot of iCloud webmail.

Searching calendar events in Thunderbird used to search both title and description fields. For example, if I searched for "dental" it would find events titled "Dental appointment" and also events with "dental" somewhere in the description field. Now it only seems to search the title. I've always put most of the information in the description field, and I use the calendar primarily as a diary record of my life and things I need to keep track of, so this is a major downgrade in terms of usability for me. Is there any way to still search the description field?

After the 128.3.0 update nothing in my email works. I can't send or receive emails. I wrote and email and since it wouldn't send I wanted to save it and could not save it. Initially I got the message that my email accounts were black listed. That stopped and I got another error message that kept repeating itself. I am not sure what that said anymore. I rebooted my computer and now it just doesn't work. I checked my settings and they are still correct.

Is there any way that I can go back to the last update? Is there anything I can do to fix this one without losing all of my saved emails? I am using Windows 11.

I am maxing out my Comcast email space allowance (10 gb) and want to move it all to my PC. (i don’t want an encrypted backup, but something readable.) I thought I could use Thunderbird and set up a POP3 account on Thunderbird with the option to leave emails on the server. It downloaded only the Inbox, not the subfolders. I read on the Forum that that is what happens with POP3. My understanding of IMAP is that I don’t get the actual email on Thunderbird, because it stays on the Comcast server.

Is there a way to download all those emails and folders to Thundebird (to keep) and then delete them from Comcast? I don’t plan to use the Thunderbird client for my day-to-day email, simply to store the last 10 years of email.

I have tried to research the forum articles so that I don’t bother anyone needlessly, but can’t find an answer. Thank you.

I have five email accounts defined on a hosting service. On my computer in Thunderbird I have my main account on the left side followed by one of the other five. Then comes Local Folders and two more email accounts. I can retrieve email into my personal account and the one above Local Folders. I can't retrieve into the other two accounts. My wife's computer has HER personal account and one of the ones into which I can't retrieve. She can't retrieve into that one either. I have checked details of the definitions of the accounts on the hosting service and in Thunderbird on both of our computers and can't find anything different on the accounts that don't retrieve mail. I have an Android tablet running the K9Mail client and have my personal account and one of the problem accounts defined. I setup the other problem email account there and got complaints about it not being from a trusted site. I went ahead anyway, went to my personal account and sent a message to the new problem account and was able to go to that account and retrieve the message. What am I missing?

I have been trying to get my Comcast email configured for days with no luck. When I try to log in using my Comcast password I get a screen that shows "Access Denied You don't have permission to access "http://login.xfinity.com/login" on this server. Reference #18.321c2e17.1727662977.283cff2b https://errors.edgesuite.net/18.321c2e17.1727662977.283cff2b. I have allowed access to third party apps on my Comcast account and I am able to access my email on the Comcast website with no problem. I saw something about disabling IPV6 but it said to go to Preferences or Options in the Settings menu. My version of Thunderbird (latest) doesn't have these menu options. I have tried various IMAP and SMTP Port settings I found on the internet and nothing works.

What are the settings for Comcast email in Thunderbird?
