I want to have a copy of all my email folders and their contents and save them to an external drive. I found them in the profile folder but I can't open them so copying them from there will do me no good. I want to be able to get in them without having to use my email program.

Thank you

Usual method: make hidden files and folders visible:

In Thunderbird

  • 'Help' > 'Troubleshooting Information'
  • click on 'Open folder' button.

a new window opens showing the Contents of your 'Profile name' folder.

* Close Thunderbird now - this is important.

  • Go up directory to the 'Profile name' folder.

It is usually called 'xxxxxxxx.default' where the x's are letters and numbers.

  • Copy Paste the 'Profile Name' folder to external drive.

Is there any way to save just you folders you have made to an external drive and be able to open them on a machine that does not have Thunderbird on it?
