I just tried to open Firefox and got the message "The bookmarks and history system will not be functional because one of Firefox's files is in use by another application. Some security software can cause this problem". DO NOT redirect to this link

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/fix-bookmarks-and-history-will-not-be-functional?as=u&utm_source=inproduct&redirectslug=The+bookmarks+and+history+system+will+not+be+functional&redirectlocale=en-US

It is useless. I tried to restore 3953 items from a previous back up and received the message "Unable to process the backup file".

I am not interested in hearing how to prevent this problem in the future, because obviously creating backups do not work.

How do I check to see if the problem was caused by security software, even though I have not added anything?

I've got a question/suggestion about Picture in Picture feature. Why "Close" button works the same as "Back to Tab"?

Scenario: Close the Picture in Picture video by clicking on the [X] button or Cmd+W shortcut.

Actual result: Picture in Picture closes and Firefox window opens, on the tab containing the video. This is very strange behaviour. If I close the video, I don't want to watch it now. Essentially "Close" button works exactly like "Back to Tab" button - so what's the point? If I wanted to switch to the tab - I would click on "Back to tab".

Expected result: I expect Picture in Picture video to close and nothing else to happen. Don't open the window/tab containing the video.

Thanks

I'm using FireFox 129 64bit on Windows 10. I have Google set as my default search engine.

Lately, when I type search criteria into the address bar and press Enter, nothing happens. And if I then try to navigate to google.com at that time, it just doesn't load at all. This doesn't happen every time, but it has been happening often enough to be annoying. So I just load up Yahoo instead to conduct my search.

No other site has this problem.

Is this a problem with google.com itself, or with Firefox's handling of it?

For transparency, I'm going to relay what was shared in an internal inquiry:

Because it's an external feature of Firefox that is designed to disable exactly this kind of content (external tracking and forms), there isn't much we can do.

In Mozilla's docs they explicitly call out forms as one of the types of content this is designed to block which specifically mentions a few forms areas here.

Many websites load external ads, videos and other content with tracking code from other companies. For example, a website may embed a video from a video platform. The code that loads the video contains trackers. Blocking tracking content can make sites load much faster, but parts of pages might not work correctly or appear at all.

Tracking content can include:

Ads

Login fields

Forms

Payments

Comments

Videos and photos

Buttons

I can see this happening in the Private mode but can you see on your end, if following the settings in Firefox's documentation to disable this for all windows does the form appear in non-private mode? Hmm even after setting to custom and unchecking all the boxes the form script still doesn't load.

I added https://www.psbspeakers.com as an exception too but it doesn't appear to do the trick.

As far as this goes since this is something implemented by Firefox we're not able to overrule this on our end

so now what should i do

I'm on a Macbook Air, Sonoma 14.5. Since the most recent Firefox updates (129.01 and 129.02), a translucent rectangle has appeared on some web pages that I access. I can see through it, but I cannot click on anything, or select text, in areas covered by the rectangle. It doesn't always appear immediately, it may take a minute or so of scrolling before it shows up. If I restart Firefox in Troubleshoot mode, the rectangle goes away. But when I restart normally, it comes back. If I turn all extensions off (I don't use very many), the problem goes away. If I turn Ghostery back on, it comes back.

I've turned off Ghostery for now. So my questions are: (1) Does the latest Firefox just not work and play well with Ghostery? (2) Is that floating rectangle likely to be a sign of something bad, or just an annoyance?

Many thanks for any clues!

I use Mozilla on two things, my laptop and my android cell phone. The syncing on my cell phone appears to work perfectly well. However, when I am on my laptop, I am unable to view my "Tabs from Other Devices" - It will show me tabs from days ago. I've tried manually syncing on both devices but nothing happens.

The only thing that seems to work is if I log out of my Mozilla on my cell phone and log back in but then it will stop syncing again.

If something else isn't syncing, I honestly don't notice because I don't use anything else much.

Hello, After installing the latest FF update (129.0.2), my tabs either stopped loading or taking too long to load. It can happen randomly with no particular sites. Even if the tab eventually loads, refreshing it can cause FF to go into loading mode forever. The example could be Reverb.com site that loads the home page after a delay but then searching for anything would send the tab into "forever spin". I checked it on a different router - same issue. I'm on Mac OS Sonoma 14.6.1.

Any hints? TIA. \tim

Is there any way I can solve this longstanding problem? (I get lots of emails from the NYTimes because I participate in their comment threads, where I check the box to be alerted when someone responds to my comment, but that all goes into my spa folder. It's frustrating!)
