Firefox quantum earases all history before "Today" even though it's set to remember history.

Until Quantum, all of my history for many days or weeks was saved until I deleted it. Now even though I've selected Remember History in "Options">>Privacy only today history is saved. choosing remember history is the advice given to others, but this doesn't work for me.

In case you use "Clear history when Firefox closes" or otherwise clear history.

  • do not clear the Browsing History
  • clearing "Site Preferences" clears exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, and software installation and exception for password and other website specific data
  • clearing "Cookies" will remove all selected cookies including cookies with an Allow exception you may want to keep

If you use external cleanup software (CCleaner) then check the settings for Firefox.

Hi Thanks for your quick response.

I have checked that, and set all these softwares long ago not to touch History, and that has worked well--until Quantum.

I checked those settings again today in the relevant software (CCLeaner and IoBit Advanced System Care). they are unchanged So it seems that Quantum is the problem.

Firefox doesn't do this on its own. The main reasons that I can think of are the two suggestions I posted above.

Do you keep history when you close and restart Firefox? If you lose history after a restart then it is possible that Firefox is doing this. If it only happens the next day or after rebooting the computer then it is more likely a problem caused by other software.

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder.

  • use "Verify Integrity" button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page

In case errors are reported with "Verify Integrity" close and restart Firefox and retry.

If "Verify Integrity" cannot repair places.sqlite, rename/remove all places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder. Firefox will rebuild places.sqlite and restore the bookmarks from a recent JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.

  • keep a backup copy of places.sqlite in case a new places.sqlite database has to be created
