Hi Thunderbird,

in my office I am forced to use Outlook and so I am used to the keyboard shortcuts defined in Outlook. One of the often used keyboard shortcuts is CTRL+SHIFT+M to start the writing of a new mail.

In Thunderbird this shortcut seems to be hard-coded to 'Move/Copy message to previous target folder Again' which is basically not a bad function, if someone is used to it. But as a user who loves keyboard shortcuts I am sometimes struggling with this feature as Thunderbird reminds the last folder even over a restart of Thunderbird! So it can be that I haven't used Thunderbird for a week and then want to write a mail and press automatically CTRL+SHIFT+M and then a mail is moved to a folder I cannot remember. This behavior is very annoying!

1. Is there any way to change the keyboard shortcut? 2. If this keyboard shortcut cannot be changed or removed it should only work if a user already has moved a file in the current session of Thunderbird. The memory function over different Thunderbird sessions of this keyboard shortcut is not helpful at all. 3. Is there a way to show the previous target folder in Thunderbird? This would at least reduce the search for unwanted moving of mails.

Waiting and hoping for a reply

Look at the addons, tbkeys-lite and thunderkey. One of them may well do what you want.

If you are using Thunderbird on a Mac, you can also go to System Preferences > Keyboard > Shortcuts > App Shortcuts. Here you can add Thunderbird to the apps for which you want to override the app's default shortcuts: (1) press + (2) select Thunderbird from the drop-down list of applications (3) enter the exact name of the menu command for which you want your own shortcut (4) enter the keyboard shortcut you want for that command (5) press "Add." That should do the trick.
