In help it says:

All of the App Tabs you have set when you close Firefox will open as App Tabs when you start Firefox again.

Not true. I set about 10 App Tabs, close FF and when it came back NO App Tabs.

App tabs are only restored if you restore the session. Startup, home page, tabs, and download settings 'Show my windows and tabs from last time' will always restore your tabs and app tabs.

Using the history menu item and then 'Restore previous session' or set about:home as your home page and it will have a button to restore your previous session. Will also work.

This is not my experience. On my Mac, the app tabs are automatically saved and are there every time I open Firefox, even though my settings are NOT "show my windows and tabs from last time." But on my PC, the app tabs are not saving at all.

Make sure that you do not use Delete browsing, search and download history on Firefox to clear the "Browsing History" if Firefox is closed because that prevails and prevents Firefox from opening tabs from the previous session.

If you use CCleaner then make sure that Session is unchecked in the settings for the Firefox application.

I had this problem and I fixed it. I had my firefox set to where it wouldn't save my history. I changed the setting and it fixed the problem.

Ok, now that is a not so preferable solution. There is a reason why I do not want my history being saved, but app tabs should be saved. Maybe someone will come up with a better solution and allow app tabs to be saved without dependence on the History. Scenario (work computer): Certain URLs are always used in the office, but my other browsing is none of their business... ;) So for now - even though app tabs are intriguingly awesome - they are not for me :(
